Oh you bastard, I'm a sucker for discount tool cabinets.

Anyway since it has a line through it, doesn't that 18 sign imply you can't purchase it if you're 18? Thinking

Aye, it's the craft knife that makes it unsuitable for people old enough to ride motorcycles... Smile

I am working at halfords, and the tools we sell ( named after halfords ) are lifetime guarantee, what means, if your tool breaks, you bring it back to us and we replace it.

Only the 'advanced' range, according to the pimply oik next door to me that works in our local one.

Only problem with that's you normally lose tools before you break them Smile

Hi

Other issue is when they decide to change the branding and then forget the old branding had a lifetime warranty.

I have some Halfords socket sets bought in the late 1980s. These were sold with a lifetime warranty, but I have nothing to prove that now. And some of the sockets have failed over the years.

All the best

Katy

While it may not be a lifetime, unless you're unlucky, I wouldn't be bitching at ~30 years.

They have decent offers on this time of year, go treat yourself for xmas.

Cheap shit is cheap.

Buy the halfords advanced range instead, the 150pc socket set for ~£100 on special is better value than that chest IMHO and will be with you for a long time.

On the branding thing, I have had no issues getting my halfords professional tools replaced when they (rarely) break, I just get the new advanced range instead. I dont have the receipt and that set must be over ten years old now.

This looks to be a better deal if you don't have the floor space: £80 from £160

https://i1.adis.ws/i/washford/278734?w=637&h=403

And Bitches love a ratchet spanner: £40 from £80

Great if you want to get your kid a toy tool set, though it's questionable whether or not these will be tougher or any better at being tools than the traditional plastic ones.

I do like the ratchet spanner, but went for some double ended ones from ebay that had a wider range for less money.
The open ends always a bit flexy anyway.

Add a set of Silverline spanners and the kids are set.

the cabinets come up on offer regular at £50, MM and Halfrauds both do the same thing,
Might be worth just buying the cabinet at £50 when they are on offer and adding decent tools, saving you £25 really.

You must be a cruel father, I wouldn't even lumber 007BodySocket with a Silverline toolkit.

He's baiting me because I always recommend their spanner set.

Which is the same set as the Halfords 6-32mm, but with a roll rather than flat plastic case and 'Silverline' rather than 'Halfords' logos.

It can be got for £30, while with the Halfords logos you pay an extra £20 with their '50% off' deal, but the claimed RRP is £100.

It's way better quality than the tools listed here to my mind - Silverline likely do cheaper spanners like these too, however.

Well, it is Christmas and those spanners are made of chocolate..

I mean halfords advanced tools are great quality. We use them for bulb/battery/stereo fits and i didint face any problem with them. But Laser tools that we also sell. They are cheap and shit. Esepcially stereo fitting tools. They just break instantly. We had nice black friday deals too, bought a set of tools for myself Razz

I'm still happy with my 216 piece set from Lidl (around £60 IIRC). Being in a case means you can actually take it places. If I was ever in the position to buy a decent tool kit I'd go for blue-point.

I used to have 2 sets of Kennedy sockets and ratchets. They survived a good 6-7 years in the workshop in use every day with no issues. They're still around to the best of my knowledge, but I donated them to a guy that needed his own set as I'd stopped mucking around with old motors.

It amuses me that you continually recommend a crap set of tools.

If you believe that you need to either get your eyes tested or stop taking drugs, probably both.

Try nearer 5 years, just still got some of them (rarely use them these days)

Yes they are a bit flexi, but still useful (once getting to the stage of bending I should be reaching for a ring spanner at least). Ratchets are useful, but not for anything too hard.

All the best

I'm a bit confused... I was replying to this.

Now, I don't have a Doctorate in Maths, but I suspect that's a little more than 5 years. Unless you have a time machine, in which case, 'gizza go.

Unfortunately no time nachine, just that they haven't just started breaking after 30 years, rather within about 5 years and even then their range had changed and no way to prove the warranty.

All the best
