Okay yesterday I got into a bit of a pickle (for those who are interested https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=4395888#4395888). So I may need a new tyre. I've seen advice in posts in various other threads but I thought it would be easier to get them here:

-Where would you recommend to buy tyres?
-What tyres would you recommend for my YBR 125?
-Can anyone recommend a place to do a full service, somewhere reliable and honest guys - location North/East London?

No idea on tyres, didn't ride mine long enough to need to replace them.

Servicing on a YBR is literally a 15 minute job don't pay anyone else to do it unless you can't dress yourself in the morning without assistance.

I have considered doing it myself as I'm not a stranger to DIY jobs on cars but wasn't sure what it involved.. I believe I don't have an oil filter so it would be replacing the oil, air filter? Spark plug if I knew where to find it. What else..

Hi,

YBR's came with a pretty wide variety of tyres when they were delivered to the dealer i worked at, 99% of the time they were some random Chinese tyre we couldn't get hold of.

Generally we would fit these to ybrs when they needed them.

Unless the owner was too tight in which case we would go to a local motor factors type place who would sort us out with what ever was cheap tbh.

While there is no filter there is a strainer almost everybody forgets about, its behind the right side engine cover and strains the oil as it returns to the sump, if it isn't cleaned from time to time ive seen them clog up entirely. The oil cooling the clutch can then be slow to drain overheating the tiny clutch and lunching it in a couple of cases.

You gotta be pretty unlucky for this to happen but still you should clean the oil strainer every 6k or every second oil change on a ybr.

All the best

Etty & Tyler - Went to them a few times now - they're really honest, few times they did quick side jobs for me for free Very Happy - I am trying to be more DIY myself now, but when it's beyond me I always go to them - If you see a red Kawasaki ER6N feel free to holler Smile

Reckon I'd go to these guys even if I lived outside of London (within reason), don't really trust other mechanics.

Drop the oil no filter to worry about there is a little mesh strainer in the engine but it's not a service item if I remember correctly, air filter is on the offside under a panel above the engine, spark plug is on the offside on top of the cylinder you'll see the HT cable going into the cylinder give it a pull and the plug is recessed in there.

That's everything apart from the stuff you should be keeping an eye on anyway like brake pads, chain adjustment and lube, lubing any pivot points.

Are you intending to order one before you're sure? If not, then have a go at re-seating the current one rather than rushing to throw money at it. I know you've lost confidence in it, but tyres aren't magic. If it's seated on the bead, the valve is good and you keep an eye on the pressure, it's fairly unlikely to kill you.

Yeah I've been advised by others on the workshop post I did (and now by you) to have a go at re-seating it so I will try that first.

At least then I'll have the info at hand if I need to then buy one Thumbs Up

I really like the Michelin Pilot Street tyres for mine. Much nicer than the stock tyres it came with.

Avon Streetrunners. Very, very good, transformed the handling of the bike.
