Whatever someone will pay for it  Normally enough of a discount so someone goes ooh, on a 3.5k bike (for example) maybe selling for 3k. It will probably take longer to shift. |

As a figurative example then, my Busa is worth about 5400, 2008 (gen 2), metallic grey/black, 13k miles, mechanically perfect, basically it fell over in a car park and her insurance has wrote it off since fairings are mental money. It literally has tiny marks on the side, the rear fairing/crash bung/mirror/alternator cover. That's it. I was thiknig £3k would be low enough to shift it fast? That's as cheap as the cheapest gen 1s I can find on eBay and the like...

While they are not cheap, bit nasty of them to write it off for something so minor. Side fairing panel is about £400 and top fairing about £350 (prices from Robinsons Foundry). And 'busa bodywork used to be dirt cheap 2nd hand as so many were broken for the engines.
If repaired the price you want seems pretty cheap. Not sure what the going rate is for the engines these days, but used to be pretty close to that.

When you consider one fairing panel plus its foam padding, mirror, rear fairing panel, exhaust set (I have the stock ones so not a resale issue), the generator cover/gasket/labor to fix it. It all adds up very quickly unfortunately. There's more stuff, but obviously a garage charging for a new numberplate aren't charging £6, they're charging an insurance company £60. The R&G tail tidy being slightly bent means "replace it" to the insurance, whereas to me it's 30 seconds and a strong grip to fix.

Internets suggests £4,350 dealer, £3,730 private good. Yours is low mileage, granted.

Why sell it then? Buy it back then keep riding it and pocket the winnings.
Don't worry, they'll be clawed back in the excess, NCD loss and increased premiums on all your vehicles for 5 years.
If it's that minor, I'm puzzled as to why you went via insurance at all.

For a late Gen 1 maybe, but a Gen 2 is a significant price jump. Her insurance settled on a value of £5,450 in calculating what they were giving me for it. You can barely get an early Gen 1 for £3,000.

Well, the way it works out, if I get £3000 for it, I'll have effectively got over £7k for it. If someone offered me £7k for the 'Busa -as much as I like it- I'd sell it in a heartbeat.

Mainly so it screws her over more than me. Plus, profit. Also I wont lose NCD - I'm claiming off her insurance, not mine.

The prices really are generally less (ie, the gaskets are £7 or £10 depending on which side), and an oil change should be a lot less than that (especially when they are doing most of the work to change the fairings, etc).
No surprise that bike insurance can be hideous when they write off a bike for quite minimal damage (and the stupid cost of a silencer is certainly going to help that).
