If your doing it on your own, first make sure that the cups are evenly placed on the swing arm.
Then straighten the bike and push down on the stand.
You should be able to stabilise the bike with just a small amount of pressure on the stand.

Once your confident the bikes stable, push down with both hands.

When taking off, be gentle and slow easing it down, then use one hand to stabilise the bike and ease it over onto it's stand.

Key point, make sure the side stand is down before taking it off paddock stand.

Well, be wary of the cheap ones because their wheels eventually come off due to poor quality circlips and so you don't want to be trying to put bike on it if the little plastic wheel suddenly falls off. My pal had a cheap one for his 550cc bike and luckily he noticed in time before fully lifting the bike.

Here's an extremely good maker and they sell them directly to the public too. If you click on the first picture of the item it will open a window and animate it the procedure of placing the biking no the stand.

When lifting a bike by a paddock stand it NEEDS to be done on level ground to avoid the possibility of it falling over.

Rear stand is easy, just pick the bike up so that it's upright and then slot the cups under the swingarm. Once you have got the cups under (making sure you haven't got the near side one under the chain) put pressure on the handle and push down.

The bike will roll a bit backwards, due to the shape of the stand.

The first couple of times that you do it though, I would have someone there to steady the bike, until you have enough confidence to do it yourself.

A front stand is slightly more difficult, because they vary in how they work. Some locate under the headstock and others have two prong things that roll under the front forks when you lift.

In all cases with the front however, you MUST use a rear stand first to stabilize to bike, and then put a front stand under.

I always did it alone until I dropped mine Embarassed Now I make sure some steadies the bike for me.

Thinking about it I need a new stand as my universal stand is pants on the ZXR.

/Wanders off to the Micron site.

Defiantly make sure you get a descent one, my cheap rear paddock stand off eBay bend while l had the ZZR600 up in the air and the bike nearly landed on me. Also on the brackets that hold the swingarm wrap some electrical or gaffer tape around them or there scratch your swingarm.

A paddock stand sounds like just what I need. My CA125 only has a side stand and I was oiling the chain at the weekend. Felt like such a t**t having to keep rolling the bike back little by little to move the chain round. The bike ended up out in the middle of the street by the time I'd finished Embarassed

Put the cups under the swingarm making sure they are balanced, hold your bike you making sure the whole things stable, take the foot nearest to the stand and apply pressure to it, which will gradually raise the bike and hey presto! Hope this helps.

If you can afford it and are using it regularly then I woulld go for one that's one piece if possible; the ones that bolt together start to get a bit dodgy with repeated use.

I tend to either:
Put the stand under one side while the bike's on it's side stand, then push down as I move the bike to vertical.
or:
Hold the bike vertically while sliding the stand underneath; more fiddly, but you don't have much choice with a race bike.

Bah, fit a center stand Razz

I use a micron stand, given the weight of the bike it seems to be lasting fine. As far as putting the bike up, bike on side stand, fit cups to swingarm then push down while steadying/straightening. Just remember not to try this on a hill Embarassed

**edit: Forgot to mention, I also find the paddock stand useful for compressing the forks when removing/refitting the front wheel. Bike on center stand, wheel into forks then put the cups onto the fork lowers and lift to align the spindle into the wheel. There may be an easier way of doing this, if you know it please share Wink

I give another vote for the Micron Rear Super Stand. I use mine with bobbins though rather than the cups. I don't dare put my bike on its paddock stand alone though and always get some assistance being raising it or lowering it. Fixing sportsbikes that just fall over is an expensive business, trust me!
