Okay I know helmet cams arent everyone's thing, but I like having one, sometimes you need the evidence of the road ahead being clear so I have one on the top of my helmet. The main problem with this is that it causes some drag around a dual carriageway and I guess gives me a bit of a martian look. So I want to place the camera as close to the chin position as possible. However my helmet isn't very accommodating, I found the most ideal place to stick down my GoPro bracket but it doesn't cover the whole area, wondered if anyone has any advice on what I can do to ensure it sticks properly? At times like these we need to ask ourselves, "What would Adam Aarons do?" 3M tape (not sure which one) is apparently highly regarded. You might want to keep a finger on it as well though.

Have you got one of these in your gopro kit?

https://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_312218_1.jpg

When I used one it clipped to the helmet in between the padding and the outer material...

Or you could ask AA for some magic super special tape...

Can you stick it on the chinny-chin-chin?

And by "stick", I mean cable tie the mount through any vents in the chin area.

I did that on my Nitro flippylid when I was using a flat camera. I'm on a Drift Stealth 2 now, which doesn't look so mongy stuck on the side.

There's always a good enough spot on a helmet for a GoPro mount, just use an extra extender or two to bring the camera into the desired position. Drag can't be that bad surely? Never been an issue for me even at max speed.

It was highly noticeable when doing life savers for me when I had a side mounted one.

But I have a scrawny neck Smile

Mount it on the bike.

If I had a helmet cam it would reveal that I spend all my time looking at girl's arses.

Which probably wouldn't back up my claim in the event of a prang!

I have a drift, it's fine on the side and a lot less draggy than the GoPro.

Never found it to be much of an issue - when I got mine I have it planted to the left side of the helmet, I've got a basic shoei qwest helmet and It's front left-ish (I like seeing my camera there, you know... paranoid about dropping and losing £300 of equipment.

Perhaps it's just something to get used to?

I don't find wind resistance an issue with the camera (SJ4000, go-pro shaped) hanging off the left. Horses or courses I suppose.

Where you are mounting is not 100% contact so the 3M pads are not guaranteed.

You need to build up a flat area using Sugru or something similar.

You could use a double layer of the 3M stuff to make a more level patch too.

Most action cameras, and mounting kits for them, include a curved 3M adhesive pad. If not, the curved mount and pad are dirt cheap on fleabay.

Oh how true. When I had my accident last year they wanted a bit of extra footage leading up to the crash etc. There just happened to be a lovely derriere walking down the pavement. This caused a bit of a barny when the GF looked at the footage a few months later. I wasn't perving, I was just doing my obs / lifesavers...

That's why road safeing people doesn't work, the 2 mins you have to provide prior to the incident normally includes a lot of incriminating footage Shifty

On the subject of Go Pros this was posted on a bargain hunting site a couple of days ago:
Go Pro Hero+ LCD £99 https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras-and-camcorders/camcorders/camcorders/digital-camcorders/gopro-hero-lcd-action-camcorder-grey-10133311-pdt.html

Seems to be in stock which's rare for a currys deal.

Not sure if the Hero+ has the removable battery, I personally tend to run out of battery fairly often, having removable batteries helps.

I have a drift stealth. Less than 2 hours battery life in the cold. Is annoying.
