So been riding the teapot for eight months or so now since passing my test (thanks to the many people for their advice on this), Fancying now a VFR

Spotted this one

https://www.marshallsofeston.co.uk/used-bike/honda/vfr-800fa-2/lovely-vfr-px-vehicle-rides-lovely-cheap-px-bike/for-sale-in-middlesborough-north-yorkshire/aetv61252883/

The price however seems a little on the to good to be true side....Can anyone see any glaring problems from looking at the pictures ?

I've sent a request asking if it's had the major VTEC service done at the required interval. If not I'll be asking for at least £200 off

Wondering what the value of my teapot is on trade in. 750cc 1998 28k Part service history. average condition. Does 750-800 sound about right ish ?

Thanks in advance

Price seems about right to me going by what I've seen locally. A friend has struggled to sell his 38k '05 for £2300. Reckon he would take 2k for it. His is in fair condition but hasn't had the valves checked.

I'll be getting them to stick a year on and it will go straight to the guy who has looked after my current bike for a thorough once over.

Potentially buying it on CC@0% so if any problems i have decent options with both dealer and CC provider

only thing I`ve seen on a VFR was linkage bearings collapsed ..

and put a volt meter on it for the Reg/Rectifier alternator out put..

only ever been to that shop once .. bought a lid.. guy seemed genuine enough..

It looks like the LCD section of the clocks is fucked and the liquid has leaked underneath the display.

I've seen another one with a similar thing.... unless it's a feature Laughing

Is says it's a cheap PX bike in the advert, I'd assume by that it's being sold as seen due to known faults.

Test ride one before buying it. I had a much older VFR750, and I wasn't that fond of it. Ponderous and heavy around town, poor ride over bad road surfaces, and then just boring on the motorway.

Only seemed to come into its own on fast, sweeping, well-surfaced A-roads.

That does seem cheap. I reckon the last model VFR750 looks much nicer though, and these seem to be holding their value to the point that a good one will soon be worth more than the model you've seen. Worth considering?

a consideration to that point is the fact that the Dealership concerned is in the "Middle of nowhere in particular" and next to an economic "black hole" .. Middlesbrough .. surrounded by long established competition .. ie. Tillsons stockton ... David Sykes ... billau darlington .. and the dealers in Newcastle ... Pound Coin Penny Coin

If they say it has, presumably you'll still be checking the service history yourself to confirm it? I wouldn't bother giving them an opportunity to lie about it.

The price looks about right for a dealer bike. You can go in swinging your "£200 off for this, £200 for that," dick, but I can't see them giving it away seeing as how it's a shiny example. There'll be another mug along in a minute if you don't go for it.

The former I can imagine - but I always thought they were quite renowned for being somewhat plush, so the poor ride comment surprises me. I have read though that the original Showa can get pretty tired and also that the Hagon isn't amazing (although it *is* affordable, so...).

I often quite fancy one myself but tbh it's simply more bike than I need or even want. If I did more touring, fine. But I don't. So fuck it. I think why I keep coming back to it is it's reputation for being one of the best bikes ever made. I don't really mind that it's dated now.

Might be worth considering the pre-VTEC VFR800. Plenty around, and can be had for < £1500 in decent nick if you look around. A well looked after example will give you no issues, very solid bikes.

I had a v-tec 800, I wouldn't have another.

It was undoubtedly good at everything, well, most things. It just really had no (and I hate using this word) soul.

In comparison my Fazer 600 is shite at some things, yet I'm enjoying it far more.

It's too blustery at motorway speeds for a start. Also the gearbox on mine is really fussy about chain tension. The headlights are on par with the six vaulters on my old ts50x (not a joke). The front suspension is too soft. The pillion pegs are the worst of any bike my other half has been on by a long margin (out of cbr600f, sv650, k5 gsxr1000, diversion 900, vfr 800 and the Fazer).

Thats about it.
