GPZ running rough

[Poundshop Dave]

I've a GPZ 500 2000 plate. Dropped it at a set of lights today, now won't rev correctly. I have taken the tank off and no pipes are kinked, taken the air filter out and there is some oil on the filter from it being on it's side. Can't get the spark plugs out as the toolkit spark plug tool goes down the hole but wont turn the plug.

Anyone think it may be oiled plugs? I'll see what I can get from Halfords tomorrow plug spanner wise, have time to tinker as I'm not back at work until the 3rd January.

When I say rev correctly, it's slow picking up the revs where before it was bang on the money, responsive and clean revving.

I would suspect something might have happened to carburettors

might of disturbed the float levels

It might have done, you might be right. Any excuse to get in the shed away from the in-laws for a bit. Tomorrow, plugs out, new plugs in, oil change, strip and balance carbs and a ride out to see my old pal in Oldbury. Sorted.

OK update. Plug tool did the job but had to put some blu-tac on a stick to get all the crud out of the bottom of the plug holes first as it prevented the plug tool from going all the way to the bottom.

Oil drained, new filter and oil, new air filter, new plugs and it works. Revs correctly so no need to strip the carbs, did another balance on them, they were marginally out. Off for a ride into bandit country known as Oldbury to see an old pal of mine, weather is slightly bracing but it all adds to the enjoyment of a hot cuppa when you get there!

Thank you for all your help forum folk.
