I always have a laugh listening to this pissed up Scouser, he normally brings out some new ones each month or so when the old ones stop working.

You can't download Kodi from the official link (I got stuck on that bit). It has to be downloaded as a zip file, so instead of downloading from the Kodi site go to https://firetvguru.net

Ok, so ensure the firestick is up to date, so kodi makes its way to you recent homescreen.

Install kodi, I recommend using the app 'downloader' on the firestick and using the direct link on the kodi website:

https://mirrors.kodi.tv/releases/android/arm/kodi-16.1-Jarvis-armeabi-v7a.apk

If your on BT internet ensure that the smart setup is disabled, I wasted hours messing about until I found out this was the problem!

https://seo-michael.co.uk/fix-bt-home-hub-kodi-issues/

Then install this...

https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-install-exodus-for-kodi/

Maybe Phoenix as a backup, and this for sports:

https://seo-michael.co.uk/tutorial-how-to-install-operation-robocop-video-add-on-kodi/

Don't bother with a build, the firestick isn't man enough

As a steaming device it's not much cop, but with Prime Video it's a decent little bit of kit. Prime isn't much at £7.99 a month, have you not thought about at least giving the 30 day free trial a go?

We order a lot from Amazon so the same day or guaranteed next day delivery, free books from the kindle lending library, plus all the Prime video content seems like decent value to me.

How so? It does seem to struggle a little bit with Kodi (occasionally it gets a bit choppy) but youtube/all the other catch-up TV services work fine. It's the best £20 I've ever spent Smile

The firestick is an under-powered android device.

Slow, laggy with poor performance and prone to overheating.

It's the reason why I refuse to sell them.

Even the crappiest £25 android boxes piss on them for performance.
Why they are so popular escapes me.

Firesticks are to streaming what AMD is to computing.

This.

If you want better performance from an Amazon product then the Fire TV Box has a higher spec and the ability to stream 4K (where you can find it). Doesn't stack up on price against other boxes though. The stick is ok if you buy it on a Black Friday deal for cheap, have Prime video, and don't expect much of it.

Mines been fine, I've experienced worse issues with Kodi on £200+ tablets.

Cheapest Firestick bought, installed kodi with es file explorer method.
Then loaded ares wizard, then put pulse build on. Been on for few months no bother.

I bought one new back in July on "Prime Day" for a tenner, I sideloaded Kodi on with the AppstoFire app on my phone and it has been fine ever since. Occasionally it'll lag a bit and decide what to do but it's paid for itself multiple times over.

Another Thumbs Up for the Firestick.

Bought mine in 2015's Black Friday sale.

Originally had Salts on it and am now running The Beast build on it.

No problems.

But they do come with a well thought out remote and the ability to use your phone as a second remote. When I got one, the 'missus factor' was pretty high in the list of things I didn't want hassle with. I haven't seen a consistent approach to UI from the ebay boxes.

Happy to be proved wrong though.

I watched my Bro-in-law put ares wizard on my father-in-laws new Firestick, what a horrible version of Kodi. Yes it has every add-on around for getting to content without paying for it but what a mess of a UI.

I'd rather stick to manually installing the addons.

UI is determined by the build, check out youtube for kodi pulse build. It's good enough compared to some I've seen.

ARES wizard is just an easy way to switch between builds and perform maintenance amongst other things.
