Hi all,
A few days ago my indicators became intermittent and inconsistent then fairly swiftly stopped working altogether. Now when I put the indicator on there are no orange lights and no lights on the dash, just the ticking noise that it usually makes (though at a significantly more rapid rate).
The bikes a Honda XL125 varadero, I have checked the fuses, I have NOT checked the bulbs because I thought it unlikely that they all blew at once.
I'm fairly inexperienced with motorcycle mechanics so any advice is appreciated. Could I repair it myself?
Thanks

The voltage feed at the flasher relay needs checking when switching on, if that`s ok then the switch needs checking.

If it's still ticking then the power is getting to the relay.

Before doing anything else check the output of the relay is securely connected to the bulb loom and the connection isn't loose. All the symptoms you mention point to that.

A higher flash rate means there is a smaller load for example a connection to a bulb has failed and therefore the bulb isn't able to draw any power.
You can tell if a bulb has failed by a faster flash. The lower current draw on LEDs is why they either flash really fast or don't flash at all on standard relays.

The relay output is unlikely to have failed, however if the bulbs have all stopped I would check it by either measuring the output with a multimeter and making sure it switches 12v or replacing it with another flasher with the same number of pins if you have one lying around.

Also check your bulbs, it's easy to do and a failed reg/rec could have pushed your bike electric system well over 12v and blown all the bulbs (unlikely).

Very helpful. I'll have a look at the relay and may return if I need further guidance.
Thanks Thumbs Up

Hi all
Haven't got round to sorting it out yet but talked to my uncle who suggested it may be likely to be the earthing. I also dropped it before the indicators became intermittent. Does anyone have any advice on how to check earthing or where it is on a varadero.
Sorry, just didn't want to have to do it in two parts.

Do you have a multimeter?

If no then just do the easy checks I mentioned before considering a bad earth.

If yes, measure continuity from the negative terminal to the earthed components of the flasher circuit, having a wiring digram will make this much easier.

Dropping the bike is very unlikely to suddenly make you loose an earth point, that said there is nothing wrong with cleaning up earth points and it can often prevent problems down the line.
Find where the battery neg attaches to the frame and make sure that bolt is tight and clean, not massively corroded. Bear in mind, there are normally several points the neg connects to the frame.
