Theory test will now be part of the CBT. About time too.

Quote:
The new plans, announced by Transport Minister Andrew Jones, also include motorcyclists having to take a theory test as part of the compulsory basic training (CBT) course, which allows the bikes, as well as mopeds, to be ridden unaccompanied.

The test is easy and with common sense you can go in there and answer most questions because they're just that basic or you can eliminate the really silly answers, it's a good step forward but not anything that will change things dramatically.

The best part as far as I'm concerned is getting Learners on the motorway with an instructor!

It's scary being behind someone only just passed on a slip road!

True but the key phrase you mention is "common sense". It really isn't that common any more.

I done my bike one a couple of years ago and my car one the other month and both times there were people turning up for their 2nd or 3rd tries Shocked

If you're that dense then being allowed out unaided in any form probably isn't for you.

I think it's sensible in the fact it makes it a little more real rather than just "Oooo I can spend a day on a car park and then raz the tits off my little hairdryer" but I don't think it will really make a difference as there's still plenty of basics even people with full licences don't have a fucking clue on.

True, but when I did my CBT there were four of us,

I'd had a car licence for 10 years
Young lass renewing her CBT on her own 'ped for another two years while she saved up for a car
50 year old lass who's husband had persuaded her to get her own bike instead of being pillion
17 year old lad who had only ever ridden a pushbike before who wanted cheap transport for work.

the 17 year old did the off road sections of the CBT then myself and ped girl went for the road ride while lad did theory test CD training and mock test (told they could only take him out if he got a high enough score) and pillion lady practicing clutch and gears.

I think the instructors did the right thing making someone with no highway code knowledge learn some of it on the CBT

That's certainly the exception rather than the rule. Good instructors to do that.
