Hi all

I've been offered some cash and a 2002 SV650 with 27k on the clock as a part-ex for my GSXR which is for sale.

The SV needs a clean up - new indicator, battery, carbs cleaned and re-adjusted as it ticked over fine but cut out when revved.

Looks to maybe have had a slow speed spill - very minor scratches and small dent in the Art exhaust (and also the broken indicator).

Tyres/brakes pads all look good I think.

If the issues were sorted (baring the minor scuffs) what would a bike like this be worth? Ebay says £1200+ but I'm skeptical.

Cheers,
Chris

K2 that's a curvy. So you want a value on a f*cked curvy SV?

About £7-800 maximum I reckon. Used bike prices have gone up a lot lately but a f*cked SV is still a f*cked SV.

I wouldnt say f*cked as such, as it'll be fine bar the slight scratches on the fairings. Would be a runner at time of sale Thumbs Up I was thinking £700 at worst so I'm not too far away

Running fine, with a years MOT and just the light scratches left I reckon if you time it right when the weather picks up you should be able to get a grand for it at least.

It sounds closer to £700 than £800. I've just let my '04 pointy go which had a value in the trade of around £1000. It was probably worth £1200 to £1400 privately.

**edit to add a picture. Mine was a clean bike, done 28k. Ran really well, had new plugs recently. CCT done when I bought it. 2x new Michelin tyres.

Factoring in the time and cost to sort it, having to wait for the V5C to arrive in your name before you can sell it, the costs of temporarily insuring and/or the problem of selling it as uninsured and SORNed, I'd value the SV at "I'll do you a favour and take it away in a van for you".

Swap value, maybe £500. I'd far rather have cash.

There's no link that I'm aware of - he contacted me via another forum with pics & details etc.

After sorting the bits out, I would need to sell it for about £800 to make up the difference. Wondering if its worth it or not to be honest, but that's why I've started this thread Thumbs Up

Possibly some haggling to be done then!

I'm inclined to agree with this. Just read the OP again, it sounds more hassle than it's worth and I think in hindsight £500 is what it's worth.

Which GSXR do you have?
I'm hard put to think of a GSXR that I'd trade for an SV. And if I had to buy an SV, it'd have to be one that was in good nick and well maintained. Even then, it'd be far from my first choice. I guess you'll have your reasons though...?

Think you got a bargain there Conzar!!

The GSXR is a mint condition Telefonica K2 600 with sensible non-tacky modifications which I value at around £2100.

The SV would be part-ex for this, fixed up and sold on, to pay off the R1 I have sat in the garage. I was just wondering if the SV would make up the difference between the part-ex value and cash sale value of the GSXR, and if it was worth while doing after the required bits had been done.

Turns out its going to be touch and go!

Sounds like you're swapping the problem of selling a bike in known good conditions for the problem of selling a bike in known bad condition.

Even if it's your only offer, I wouldn't bite their hand off.

Drop the price of your GSXR so you get some actual interest in it, then you won't need to part ex it for a scruffy SV which will then need selling on.

I've had interest in it - and it's a 2k bike all day long. Just wondering how much a scruffy SV fetches

Only do it if you're going to make a reasonable amount more than you can with a straight sale, and you don't mind the bother involved with flipping the SV.

Personally, I wouldn't want that bother.

In terms of what it's worth. Well, any modern high capacity Japanese bike in good working order, reasonable cosmetic condition and with a decent MOT has to be worth close to a grand. £700 is probably quite fair. But again, do you want it in your life?
