Looking for my first big bike

I've seen a couple of yamaha xj600s on sale for around 1k which seems decent. I had a little look at reviews and apparently the bike is not exciting or great for dual carriageways. How good or bad is the xj600?

It seems like the bandit or fazer is the better option but is it worth an extra 300-500 quid more over the xj600?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated

First big bike, get the cheaper of your local, available options. It's *very* likely you'll drop it or change your mind in short order, and almost anything will be significantly more fun than a 125.

It's not a bad bike, I find bandit's boring, fazers are good, but check your insurance quotes first, a young lad here had his heart set on a thou, but insurance was loaded (pretty much doubled) compared to the Bandit 1200 that he ended up with.

Divvy will do dual carriageway and motorway work fine.

Its a workhorse rather than anything meant to impress you.

Is this for a A or A2 ?

What do you want it for? It's designed to be a no-nonsense commuter bike. 60hp will be fine up to motorway speeds.

If you're looking for something to enjoy at the weekend instead or as well, then I'd be thinking FZS600.

I want the bike to be able to beat most things from the lights and be able to overtake at dual carriageway speeds. It's just going to be a commuter bike.

I've had my full licence for quite a while now just need to find the right bike for the job.

Any 600 will get you away from the lights ahead of most cars you encounter day to day. To commute, you need to consider roads you ride. Faired bike always better on dual/mway, and give weather protection (compared to a naked). It's your budget and what you like the look of that matters...But most of all a good bike over a bad one. Look and ask opinions on here....there's plenty of good advice about what to leave alone. Just ask.

my first big bike after passing my test in Nov was a CBR 600 RR but its not my first big bike and I've been riding bikes for over 30 years
best try a few different models and makes to see what suits you best
