 |
|
As the title says - been looking at it and I assumed it would all be booked up etc but it isn't it seems. Looks doable if I book soon.
I'll take a look at ferries a bit later but camping is still available.
Any advice . . .when to go - race days? Practices? Mixture? this will likely be a solo trip as well.
I humbly bow to experience for any tips . . ____________________ Zooooooom

You say it isn't booked up, but will look at ferries later!
Assuming you're taking your bike, it's the ferries that get booked up, camping is not difficult to book nearer to the time!
Can't imagine there'll be many ferry dates available now, so you'll have to base your itinerary around what's available!
If you're not taking a vehicle, "foot passenger" on the ferries will be available on most dates.
If you like crowds of people, go in race week, if you like things a bit quieter go in practice week!
During race week the roads are rammed, leave plenty of time to get anywhere on race days.
Take a radio, if you end up on one of the bigger campsites, you'll be competing with a lot of other people all trying to use the site's wifi, because they didn't bring a radio, a phone simply ain't good enough!
Take waterproofs, good waterproofs!
If you want to watch a race from a popular vantage point, get there early, all the best views will have been snapped up by the early birds, who got there 4 hours before the start time! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

As said youve gotta be on the ball booking stuff. BnB's and hotels can be just as bad as the ferries.
Ive been for a full race week which was awesome, weather was top all week (2013 i think) was the reason i got a bike to be honest.... then ive been across just for the day as a foot passenger with the mountain bikes, which was also very enjoyable, you just run a gamble with the weather....
Im off to the Classic this year cant wait. Wanna try get over to Ireland to watch some over there too ____________________ '88 Honda H100 SII - 89' Honda VFR400 NC30 |

Ferry tickets will be available in Feb when people inevitably to cough up when full payment is due, but you'll need to be quick if you want race week!
Camping is a doddle to book, but still best to get it done as soon as your ferry is sorted.
Quarterbridge Rugby Club campsite is pretty good, and a short taxi from the night life.
Personally, I prefer practice week to race week. I wouldn't even bother taking the bike for race week. The mountain is pretty much permanently shut due to accidents, and the roads are choked solid with bikes.
Practice week gives you much more opportunity to actually enjoy riding around the course, or the island in general (hint, most of the fun de restricted roads are found outside of the actual TT course). The island really starts to fill up form Wednesday onwards, when you'll find the mountain road closed more and more frequently
Whenever you go, it's epic fun, and not like any other experience. Do it! ____________________ Current bike - 2018 H2-SX, 2004 SV1000s, 2016 Aprilia RSV4 RF, 2017 Sherco SERF 300, 2003 Suzuki DRZ400 (stolen - AY53 JUU) |

When you say ferry tickets will be available in Feb . . ..you mean people pre booked and don;t cough up?
Which ferry company should I check at that time - seems it's just the one really - they have tickets but the times are a bit poop . . ____________________ Zooooooom

Why not go for both weeks?
I've been for the last two years with a team and obviously race week has much more of a buzz but practice week is brilliant and you can walk around the padock pointing at shit and talking to people. It's great and if you're not a cunt everyone is really friendly and helpful.
I'd get a B and B in Douglas if I were you.
Near the start line, tt shops and padock
Near the beach where they have a day or two of mx
Near the ferry port
Near the big tent thing where they have music and booze every night.
Unfortunately I'm not going this year but enjoy it and good luck ____________________ Had: '06 CBR125R + '01 GSF600 + '07 SPRINT ST 1050 + '80 CB250 RSA + '93 Ducati 900SS
