I bought a bike in Dec from a dealer and didn't get a V5 or the green slip. I was told I would receive something in a few weeks.

I still haven't got anything and I really want to tax it so I can ride. I rang the dealer and they assured me it had been sent off.

I looked on the DVLA site and it says this:

If you need to tax your vehicle
You might be able to tax your vehicle at a Post Office and order a new log book at the same time.

Take in a filled in application for a log book (V62) and £25 fee to a Post Office that deals with vehicle tax - the Post Office will tell you if you can tax without the log book.

This sounds a bit vague. Why is it "might"? I have the MOT and vin number.

Anyone have experience of this?
Thanks

No I was never given one. All I got was the MOT. From what I can work out they took the bike in as a trade in and either didn't get any documents or they have lost them and reapplied for the V5

You're gonna be stuck then, till you get the V5.

How did you get it back from the dealer without the tax?

They delivered it as I hadn't passed my test yet

I'd get on to them constantly. They sold, and delivered you a bike that can not be used on the road. Did you buy cash, or finance?

Paid cash. I'm going to ring today and see if they have the V5 number

Why wait until tomorrow to get lied to?

You might as well just fire in with a V62 and invoice them for the £25.

Jesus H - bike from a dealer and no V5; it's almost like that peace of mind mark up doesn't even exist any more.

I would guess that they check the MOT and insurance status against the online databases.

I know they abolished VIC checks, but I'm not sure what happens if someone tries to tax a cat B or indeed a new non-euro 4 bike.
