Last year my R6's mileage was coming up for 25k. I decided that whilst winter was on its way I'd do the valve clearances. I was hoping they'd be within tolerance and I wouldn't have to take the cams out - as I wasn't confident with this.

Anyway, after measuring, I found it was in need of replacement. I asked my local garage who said they wouldn't be able to do it for a few weeks, so considered doing it myself. I never got around to doing it right away and it's been sat in the garage for a few months in pieces.

I ended up replacing the shims and am now in the process of putting it back together, but being 3 months since I took it apart, I'm struggling to remember how to put it back together again. In particular the routing for the wiring.

I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of under the tank/throttle bodies which shows how these cables should be laid out.

There's one connector linked to the ignition coils that I am unable to identify or work out where it connects to. Can someone tell me what the white plug here is for and what it connects to? I cannot for the life of me figure this out.

TL:DR I took the bike apart, didn't make notes, forgot how it goes together. Need help with cable routing and what the hell this connector is for.

Thanks in advance

Anthony

Part 35 on this diagram?

Tricky to see on that diagram, but might give you some clues.

Its been a while but most R6, R1 type engines are the same for wiring and cable routing.

The Wiring runs along the top edge of the cam cover above the coil plug caps, the coil caps them selves normally point right horizontally as your sat on the bike (towards the cam chain) to stop any water ingress from above or below.

The plug leads fit through a rubber boot that seals the gap in the frame above the engine under a plastic cover from above and sits under neath the pipe work that feeds the exhaust ports with air from the airbox.

The main plug will be on the right hand side running along the engine behind the frame and from memory the white one is for the radiator fan and the single black male plug is the cam shaft position sensor.

You cant really get it wrong as the Yamaha dont give you any extra cable so it will only route one way and your notice if its wrong because it will be either to short or your have to pull it tight to make it fit.

All the best

I figured out that the plug was for the air induction valve. My bike is blanked off, so it never used it.

I gave up on trying to put it back together again and dropped it off at the shop on Friday. Rolling Eyes
