The roads are dirty at this time of year, wherever you live, but especially in rural Lincolnshire. I ride purely for pleasure, but I ride all year round. I like to keep my bike clean, but in winter, that means washing the bike after every ride. The mudguards on modern bikes are very short compared to bikes from say the 1960s. This means that mud gets sprayed on the engine, and on your boots. Fender extenders must be useful, but I cant find one for my CG 125. Today, I fitted a mudflap to the front mudguard. The idea is to remove it when better weather comes. Looks a bit ugly, but I think it will keep things a lot cleaner. Anyone else tried this?

A motorcycle specific mudflap? No, not that, although I habitually fit rigid extenders. The Enfield came with one already in place, just to spoil my fun. Same with fork gaiters, all bikes should have them as standard. [shakes fist at manufacturers, wonders if they'd get away with wheel arches being optional accessories on cars]

I get epic fling on the Racebike, the tail-tidied plate was effectively obscured within a week.

Sadly, it's up for its MOT next month so I may have to finally give it a wipe. Sad

Had to laugh at being called a youngster, I am 71! Having fitted said front mudflap [Ebay, about £8] I does not look too bad to be honest. As I say, I can easily take it off for the summer, although I am getting to quite like the look of it. Agree about the fork gaiters, they are on my to-do list, but I will leave it until after upcoming MOT, incase there is other more urgent stuff to do. The lather mudflap looks like you run over some womans handbag, and it stuck to your front mudguard!

My CX500 has a Honda one on it.

What one did you get for your CG? Mine could do with one also. I always planned to get a fender extender for my ER6 but never got around to it. Perhaps I should.

FenderExtender (or however they spell it).

Worked well for me in the past, stops a lot of the crap getting on the downpipes etc. They do one for most bikes.

I've seen people make something out of a milk jug and good double sided tape.

I may have to DIY, they don't do one for mine as far as I can see.
