First time its happened, I ended up at the front of a rolling road block while the wombles sorted out someones car at junction 14 earlier today.

Riding the next 5 miles of motorway with no other vehicles around of any sort was amazing!

Also funny belting past the womble van at (ahem) "70" only to see all the cagers crawling past because they thought they were "real" police...

Mr. Green

I can highly recommend it. Thumbs Up

Reminded me of a situation years ago. En route to work near LHR going up Stokenchurch Hill on the M40, I came upon a 3 lane 70mph traffic jam. Filtering through, I found at the front of it an American-liveried police car. Der grippentvist Ich openvind and off up the road at many leptons I go much to the annoyance of the loons trailing behind. After a few miles at a steady 85 a few high spec cars came by me at an estimated 95+. Aaah, never mind. lol.

I'm surprised by how infrequently I do this, considering that I do the Heathrow section of the M25 every day, then variants of M3/M4 and M40 depending upon how I feel.

A few weeks ago the bikes at the front were asked by the womble, who had stopped traffic on order to recover a broken down vehicle in lane 3, to form a rolling road block behind him until the hard shoulder started again. So a line of bikes rode across all lanes until he got to safety and waved us past, at which point we obviously gently accelerated to the speed limit to ride safely on the open motorway. At least on the bike you get to see what was holding up traffic, rather than sitting in a jam for no apparent reason.

With bigger accidents it's nice to get waved through before the road opens fully again, so a clear road with all the police occupied behind you.

Technically, the Wombles are empowered to stop traffic, not to slow it down. Idea

Last year I was on my way to Doncaster to on the a1 for a family funeral. There had been an accident, and after filtering through 8 miles of stationary traffic, got to a junction where the traffic had been stopped.

Copper wouldn't let me through, but advised me to get off the a1 by going down the slip road the wrong way (which was also chocca with traffic). Got back on the a1 at the next junction, and there was absolutely no traffic, at all, for mile after mile after mile. I had the road to myself essentially to Doncaster.

Obviously, I rode according to the road and traffic conditions, but I had to make up for lost time spent filtering through 8 miles of stationary traffic at 30mph...

I remember noticing after a minute or 2 of steady riding that there was a blue car sat in my blindspot...

It really irritated me that this guy had the entire road to sit in, and he had chosen to sit just off my bumper in the lane to the right.

I obviously had to check if it was a copper before showing him the error of his ways by way of becoming a dot in the distance. Cool

Once I had slowed down from the 71mph (ish - Wink ) to a normal speed it took him a good 3 or 4 minutes to catch up.

He then shot past at a million miles an hour and disappeared into the distance. Not entirely sure what the point was though.

"I can maintain a slower speed than you for longer" maybe?

I filter past that slow moving traffic. Or, slide off the junction, straight over the roundabout and BAM.

Don't stop for anything but pizza.

Forgot to mention he then skidded off the road and smashed into a building - leading to his car becoming a huge fireball which attracted this big f*cking dragon.... Scared the shite out of me.

He (or she?) picked up the car and flew off with it. No idea what happened after that....

Wink

note: none of the above actually happened

Not so long ago I filtered my way to the front of the stationary queue on the M6 just as the Wombles reopened it. I couldn't help but chuckle as a tin box thought he had a chance against a zzr1100... (to 70mph of course, kitten safety and all that)
