this happened last night.. my fault. Got squeezed and panicked, got a fist full of brake on damp side edge of a speed bump.

Most notable damage pics below. Other than that there's a scratch on mirror and bar end.

Should have gone for the launch instead Razz

Tail sections are usually cheap on most bikes, so it seems you got away rather lucky!

Why did you brake? You did not get squeezed, just wrong reaction. Could have gone over any part of the speed bump with application of some throttle.

There is an uphill section with 20 or so full width speed bumps.. Cars drive pathetically slow, 10mph over them, painfully slow on the bike. I can quite often be seen sanding on the pegs, full throttle up between cars.

Y U Brake!?

End cap can be sorted (About 110 + getting it swapped). Swap the tail for a Chinese one?

Disagree, bumps or objects in the road require positive throttle to unload the front suspension. Else the bump has to physically compress the forks, less remaining travel and chance of bottoming out if you did need to brake directly after the bump.

Glad you got away with it, damage doesn't look too bad. Don't know why you went to the offside of the speed bump though. You know what they day about hindsight of course.

Not seeing the squeezing either Confused, did you panic when you saw the second car (cos it looks like you had room)?

Maybe it was the psychological effect of being on the side, rather than in the middle, of one of those middle-of-the-lane speed humps in wet conditions. You didn't want to be there. You wanted to be in the middle, but felt it was too late to change your line once you saw the second car. Momentarily, you believed that you had no traction, and that was enough. Tired at the time?

Let me describe what happened...

This was partly down to the road conditions being quite slippery as its covered by trees, and largely to do with poor obs on my part.

From my POV I could see the first car approaching and I knew it was taking the centre of the road to avoid the bump. All good at this point. I judged the distance and speed nicely to get that same patch of road just after the car vacates it.

What I failed to see was the second car. From my angle it was completely hidden behind the first car and so took me by total surprise. This is where the panic bit comes in. I had already committed to taking that gap and so bad the car it seemed. Luckily he swerved away from me in the nick of time but I missed that and went into full avoidance mode.

Wet road, hard on the brake, front tyre catching the side of the speed bump at a shallow angle meant it locked and slid out from under me. By this point I was almost stationary so the drop wasn't as dramatic as it might appear in he clip. I did a roll for effect really!

Oh and the reason I don't take the left side of these types of speed bumps (certainly the case On this road) is because it's almost in the gutter, very dirty and in wet conditions is very slippery especially with the camber of the road.

Anyway lesson learned and all that.

They did a fantastic job. Would have been so much worse if not for these.

Pretty much this. Looking back at the footage you can see the second car swerve away from me to avoid me. But by then I had already locked up and was on the way down.

Any links to the fairings? Been checking eBay and seen one which I think is same colour but is also damaged.

Lucky the car swerved or we'd all be ripping you for riding into an oncoming car to avoid a traffic hump. Very Happy

Yep no cracks or breaks. Just a graze about 1mm deep at worst. Problem is the paint. It's a Matt finish so might be harder to get a good result.

Crash bung did good job,
Shows me how heads get Squished at single figure speeds tho..

I do 23 speed humps on the way to work. Just stand up slightly on pegs and throttle on, there is loads of shitty hazard on that section to work, but the humps aren't one of them.

It was unlucky, if that had being a full width speed hump, you wouldn't have being fighting cars for the the wheel position in the middle of the road.

It was lucky there wasn't a third car /truck.. Shocked

Didn't happen anyway.. No paint diagram.

To me the second car doesn't swerve or anything there. Hes behind the first car and just goes straight over the bump, headlight angle doesn't change. It looks like you try to nip around the bump and just panic that a car is there.

Its a whoops moment but everyone has them.

The cyclist, they were both lining up to pass. Small gif hides it well. Cars can be unpredictable passing them, give plenty of space.
