The boxes would reveal how fast you had been going and braking forces in the moments before an accident.
And that's scary enough for most. But road organisations are also warning the technology could be used to track your speed at all times - automatically issuing tickets if you stray over the limit - or even cutting your engine to limit you by force.

Well, if this ever happened I'd sell my road bike and stick to the track... after kicking up a right bloody fuss to anyone who would listen. Imagine, a box cutting power if you were speeding? So, you're halfway past the articulated lorry (with a van approaching in the other direction) and the power is cut to the bike because you hit 61mph! Shocked Yeah, that'd saved loads of accidents!

Personally I can't see it happening - they'd be an uproar. I can't imagine many drivers being in favour.

Full story here.

That's okay.. just won't buy new bikes! Laughing

If they bring that in then it will see the end of all new bikes , destroying the bike industry.. I can't see it happening, so much so that I won't lose any sleep over it Razz

Yeah, I can't either but it's worthy of concern when it gets to the point that people with power are talking about it.

I can see an aftersales service in removing boxes...

Hi

I would be not at all surprised if it happens. It is well on its way already.

Anti tampering measures would be easy. Checked at MOT time, large fine / confiscation of vehicle for any tampering.

Older vehicles are also easy. They just restrict their use to organised runs. Or put the VED through the roof (and encourage insurance companies to do the same) for any vehicle not equiped with one.

All the best

Keith

Is this just a UK thing, or a europe thing?

If they manage to implement this then I'm moving to France (or USA if it is a europe thing)

Hi

UK mainly, but likely to be Europe wide due to standardisation.

All the best

It won't happen untill a few years after they are common place in cars. No car's yet have them, so i think bikes are safe for a fair while yet Wink

The government may be very keen up them and make it law, doesnt mean its going to happen though. Just look at 33bhp and moped law's, no one pays any attention, including the police most of the time.
