Leather care

I have used a few leather balms in past on my leathers but last year I used Renapur stuff, which I suppose does what it claims to do, but I don't like the smell of it much.
Any recommendations of what to use would be appreciated.

Never found the need to treat my leathers.Wear waterproof jacket and trousers to protect them from rain,and use Febreeze during the summer to stop them smelling sweaty.

I have FOUR (4) leather jackets, and they're all impregnated with a product (colourless 'grasso' horse fat, sold as a sort of dubbin by a Spanish company called Bufalo) to keep them in good condition and make them waterproof. I'm sure you could sluice them in water and nothing would get through. Treat them with horse fat and you'll never need textiles as they'll be completely waterproof. The stuff sticks to the jacket forever, and the only downside is that it loses its shine.

I just wipe mine over with those leather wipes you get for the sofa every now and again. Smell quite nice, gets the bugs off in the summer and don't leave them looking all shiny.

Gold label soft saddle soap for a proper clean (once or twice a year). Nikwax (the white fluid stuff in a bottle, not the wax in a tin) to waterproof and condition.

A big tub of Boots branded generic petroleum cream (not jelly) for dry skin. Works on live and dead flesh. No need to over-think it.

I've found gliptone to be one of the best use the cleaner first then conditioner feels a lot softer after a few applications

Saddle soap is not actually cleaner, it's a conditioner. You need to do both processes to keep your leather in good condition.

Bike specific stuff is eyewateringly expensive, and J&S gouge on nikwax compared to sports/hiking shops. Horse places are probably your best bet to save pennies, and I found a local market stall shifting milsurp and lots of horsey leather care products, possibly because reenactors have vast quantities of leather goods....

Babywipes for rapid spot-cleans. There's usually a small pack of these in the luggage if i'm away for several days

I'm using Belvoir (pronounced beaver) tack cleaner to get the road grime off of everything that gets grimy. De-cruds boots quite well. Is easy, and cheaper than the nikwax leather cleaner. There are probably other similar products.

Then belvior tack conditioner (easy), saddle soap (more work), or Brecknell Turner conditioning soap for a matt finish (again more work). Ledergris on my boots as it's easy and black. Nikwax glove prooof on my gloves becasue it's less slippery and doesn't mess up goretex.

Some garments get a waxy bloom if they are treated with hard waxes (conditioning waxes) and not used regularly. Nickwax leather conditioner (goretex safe) or belvior tack conditioner spray work better here.

I've never owned a pair of leather trousers (I had the jacket in my youth but now I'm a textiles man) - but I've always wondered: considering how often I put me jeans through the Hotpoint compared with how often I'd be doing likewise with leather strides (ie, never), do they not, er, STINK?
