Riding whilst being caught up in snow is very unfortunate and a big hassle. Riding in snow when you're on a Bandit12, traversing a major roundabout and happen to hit an oil/diesel slick is a major fuck up. But having to do this with hunderds of impatient fuckin cagers honking when clearly there's a biker down on Northwick park roundabout is a total fuck in the arse and gets me very infuriated.

Such was the sight that i witnessed coming home from college today. Going home at 4 o clock, the northwick park roundabout was gridlocked. I fltered past up the approach road and i see every car taking evasive action at one of the corners. I took it slowly round th corner cos it was snowing lightly only to see a gentleman - i guess it was a courier judging by his livery on the floor and bike next to him. He was positioned in a fucked up manner taking up 1 1/2 lanes on a 3 lane roundabout. Seeing that, i stopped and positioned my bike so that any car will see my brightly coloured bike and take notice. Checked if he was ok. He was breathing well, but obviously in shock. It stunk of petrol. He stood up immediately and then another GS500 rider came round the corner to help us pick his bike-bloody hell, you can pop a bollock lifting a fully laden bandit up! Even then, any car driver (driving at a snails pace due to the snow) could have stopped and offered to help or at least put on their hazards, but NO! About 100 cars came past flashing and bashing their horns with no consideration to us and it is this that pisses me off. Once he was cleared, we went of our own ways. I guess had i not seen him nor got the attention of the GS rider, god knows what would have happened Evil or Very Mad. But at least he would be quicly seen to at Northwick park hospital should the situtation escalate. Anyway, i hope gives others an insight on what to do when you ever come up in a situation like me. If i were on the floor, i'd be eternally grateful if some fella, wearing a lid helps me up cos it indicates that bikers are there for each other.

Anyway, godspeed Bandit Rider, and make sure to check out your tank and pipes. Your bike really did stink of petrol.

That was the complete opposite to when my mate came off last year. Just about every car that passed us stopped to offer assistance!

Maybe the site of a ZX6R halfed in 2 might have led them to beleave it was more serious than it was, dunno but many car drivers did stop.

Maybe because it was rush hour or something they where being inpatient idiots?

Stories like this don't fill me with anger, just make me disappointed that the human race should be so disrespectful to other people around them. The honking of horns and flashing of lights is quite unacceptable and I hope one day they will get their comeuppance. Karma

People are such w#nkers some times!

It's really weird riding on a weekday (if I ever get the change again) as around the start of the rush hour the whole attitude changes. During the day, people move over in their lanes (Sometimes) and generally let you go about your business. But nce rush-hour kicks in, everyone is out to make sure you can't get past, make sure they block you off, and generally feck you over!

I'm with you on this one, I think it would not be a hanus crime if a downed rider was to kick in the door of every car that passed with the horn going, but then you might cause one big punch up! Surprised

TBH, it's not just bikers they won't help.

I couldn't tell you how many times I come to the top of a queue of traffic to discover that the hold-up is a broken down car. Rather than one or two people helping to push it off the road, which would taken a maximum of five minutes, everybody swerves around it and all the traffic is held up.

I usually stop to help with the pushing, myself. Don't know about the driver, but it makes me feel better than the other road users! Laughing

The reason they'd bother to help people lain strewn over the road is perhaps because they'd be in shit if they left the scene of the accident without stopping. If you can see someone unconcious lying on the road, it'd be a big deal to just drive round them and ignore them.

However, if you see some biker come to grief and who has just dropped their bike or something, then I imagine most car drivers would just be thinking 'Nothing to do with me' as there aren't any consequences to leaving the scene of a minor incident like a simple lowside. The problem is when they start becoming aggressive and impatient; cars don't have minor accidents like simple lowsides, they probably don't understand that bikes are remarkably easy to bin and just think that some fool is being crap at riding and slowing them down.

Hurried post, no time to finish it properly.

I'd certainly stop if I was in the car Smile

It's sad that a lot of people out there just aren't bothered about helping somebody else out - it's not even as if it's an altruistic thing to do, as they'd be helping themselves by getting traffic moving again Rolling Eyes

That is pretty appalling mind. You'd think they'd even have the decency to roll down a window and ask if you need a hand!

Still, hats off to you, tito. You've done us bikers proud, and that GS rider. Thumbs Up To both of you.

Hope the rider is OK. Praying I havent come across a bike accident (or any accident for that matter) yet but I'm sure I'd do the same if the time called for it.

It's not only the fact they just drove past, because they could see that he was being assisted by two other bikers. But the fact they were honking and flashing, that is shocking. Rolling Eyes

I stalled at a roundabout before (being a rubbish learner), couldn't start the bike for about a minute and 2 people stopped their cars to see if I was ok. Most of the time both bikers and car drivers are very good when you get into trouble. Sometimes I think it depends on where you live in the country.

when my girlfriend low sided her 250 marauder cruiser at 6:30 in the morning on a quiet back street roundabout, the car behind her just slowed down and then drove around her once she had finished sliding to the edge of the road Evil or Very Mad it turned out that the reason she lowsided in the first place was because the tool driving the car was following far too closely and caused her to not concentrate fully on the entry speed into the roundabout which resulted in a panicky fist full of front brake mid roundabout. some people are just born to test our tolerance Karma

I do wonder if your average cager actually has no idea how heavy a bike is, then it doesn't cross their mind that you might need some help Question

Its true, they think that because a bike "looks" small, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's quite light. Even trying to lift a 125 is hard enough. Mind you, i've been trying to establish the ignorance of my dad whenever he drives, often failing to indicate. Sometimes i get a but frustrated as i explain to him "What happened if i was behind you on my bike when you executed that manoever?". I really should think that there must be more emphasis on bikes within the car theory test and i think the highway code must be revised to accomodate more crucial facts about motorcycle riders. Facts such as the average weight of a bike and how vulnerable we are to road surfaces. I'm sure the ignorant twats, sorry, non biking car drivers can begin to acknowledge their fellow two-wheeled road user.

I know i'd always stop to help someone out. I have to admit, when riding and I saw a car stranded up at a roundabout, I didn't jump off and help partly due to Mrs Mantzy being on the back at the time. I did offer a comment (think it was something like "not so lucky today then mate") which probably didn't help him but least he smiled.

When I went down it was rushhour and it took about 30 cars going past before someone stopped, in the fastlane, and chucked me in his car. About 30 metres up the road, someone in a white van had stopped in the slow lane and between them they filtered the traffic away, got my bike on its stand and called the police and ambulance. Big up to them but shame on the 30 that went past. Especially the one I looked at as he crawled by watching while i was crawling along the floor in too much pain to stand up.

Stopped to pick up a biker stranded in the country before when I was on the 125 but he said he was alright and didn't need any help but thanked me for stopping. There was a car in the layby too, they didn't bother asking him. Curled up in their nice warm cage, what do they care about others.

You did good m'son. We should all look out for each other.

I stop for a bike if I can, sometimes not possible or safe on the motorway though. I always stop for an accident if the emergency services aren't there, even if there appear to be a lot of people 'helping' it doesn't mean they know what they are doing.

I have been in two incidents (not vehicle related) where this was the case, one was an old lady who had passed out on the street. There were loads of people crowding round and trying to prop her up on a pile jackets rather than what they should have done which is take her false teeth out and put her in the recovery position.

I have also stopped a group of people trying to force a biro between the teeth of a guy who was having a seizure.

I always stop and check cars in a ditch too unless there is one of those "police aware" stickers on it. No way of knowing if someone has already stopped. A drinking buddy of mine landed up trapped in his car for four hours after running it into a ditch during which time several cars had driven past even though it was a pretty minor road.

Never be afraid to stop, you just need to ask the question "Is everybody ok? Do you need any help?" if someone has taken charge of the situation they will either tell you "No thanks, everything under control." or give you something to do. If you get no response or something less than confident, it is time to get involved.
