Just a quick one really, i'm pretty sure i know the answer though but want to check.

I have a full car licence.
Can i ride my 125 with L plates on the M60 legally?

I think it will be a no personally.

If you hold a valid CBT certificate, then yes you can ride it but M60 with L plates is a no. Having a full car license makes no difference for a 125cc.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. ZigZagging "A" roads to Coventry it is then!

As above, you can't ride it on a motorway on your provisionaL entitlement (or take a pillion).

However, (inB4 Tef) there's no reason that you can't go and pass a few simple tests on your own bike and get yourself an A1 licence and tear up the Loser plates.

Theory = £23
Module 1 = £15.50
Module 2 = £75

And you're done. No more CBTs. No need to pay for lessons, all the resources you need to pass are available online.

I've been on the Loser Plates for 10 years now and every time i call up a place to do my tests they only seem to offer it with lessons which costs loads. Really is annoying.

So wait i have to do the theory again even though i did one for the car (a month ago)

You need to do a motorcycle specific theory test, so yes you have to do it again.

You don't have to go through a school to do the tests on your 125. Find your local test centre and get in touch direct.

Can you not just book your test direct then?

EDIT: Beaten to it Wink

No.

However years ago when Al took us to the test centre all three of us doing DAS passed. So he took us all back via the motorway.

If you're near the middle of the M60 you can borrow my bike to do your test if you want.

Of course

You break it you buy it. Who was that guy? Redoko? I loaned him my CBR at the Barbecue Laughing

Plus you insure it too.

Ten years and you don't know you can't use motorways on Loser plates?

Also.

Indeed, i just did my CBT at the weekend, and one of the first things we went through is what you can/can't do on a CBT, inlcuding what roads you can/can't ride on, not carrying passengers etc

If the OP has been on L plates for 10 years they must have completed at least 5 CBT's and not one of them has mentioned this.........................

You've done 4 or 5 CBTs?

You missed the chance to get a full license the easy way on your own 125?

GTFO off the roads. You deserve all the Teffing that you are about to receive. Tut Tut

You don't "do your tests" with a training school. You do them at a DVSA test centre. You can book everything directly yourself and just get it done, no lessons required.

https://www.gov.uk/book-theory-test
Book motorcycle theory. Mostly the same as the car theory with a few bike specific questions (that you don't even have to pass). Waste of time and money, but not as much as doing any more CBTs.

...then...

https://www.gov.uk/book-driving-test
You want:
A1 light bike mod 1

Pass that then book:
A1 light bike mod 2

YouTube has plenty of DVSA videos covering both test modules.

They're easy enough. No excuses, just do them.
You'll need intact L plates front and rear, and don't turn up wearing trackies and trainers.

Doing "A1" only gets you a licence to ride the same 125 that you're already on, but it's a proper licence. You can take a pillion, and use motorways.

And i suspect a reduction in insurance premiums since you will no longer be on a provisional license

Funnily enough, the lass who did her CBT along side me at the weekend was in the exact same position as the OP, she had been riding on L plates for 10 years doing her CBT every 2, she had slightly better control over the bike than i did (having never ridden a bike before Saturday) but had fuck all road awareness, she got lost within the first half a mile on the open roads and couldn't answer pretty basic questions, like if you are allowed on motorways or not

It really made me think what some CBT course must be teaching people

Might have been the OP's sister?? As, I suspect for most people, the M60 wouldn't be the most straight forward way to get to Coventry !! And on a CBT, wouldn't try a motorway !!

From what I remember, when I did my cbt, at the time there was someone else renewing their's, and as it was a renew, it wasn't much more that a rubber stamping exercise, granted, it's been a while since I did my cbt.

Well i can only go off of my instructor on the day, but we both had to do the exact same classroom, pad and on road riding syllabus, despite me never having ridden and her being a perpetual 10 year CBT veteran

Who wears trackies and trainers on a motorbike? I've got the full gear as i ride all year and i'm not an idiot (in regards to safety anyway) heh

Thank you, i know i should have done it years ago just have not had the time or money to waste unfortunately, but now i do.

Yes i deserve the flack but trust me i don't drive like the other L's around London or even some of the nutters on larger bikes, i actually behave myself.

I'll have a read through and get my self booked asap.

Yeah I've "done" it 5 times but only once properly, the other times i turned up with my old CBT and they just signed it and let me go, nothing else required.

I only asked again as I've recently passed by car test (both) at the ripe age of 30 and i was not sure if the rule still applied.

M60 would be perfect for me as i live in around New Malden, pretty much one straight road all the way there.

Really?? You do know the M60 is effectively the Manchester ring road, perhaps even Manchester's very own M25 lookalikee !! The last time I looked, I could have sworn New Malden was somewhere near London.

Do you have many journeys that seem to take far longer than anyone would reasonably expect, and I don't just mean because you're only on a 125 !! Laughing

Do you think maybe he means the M6 which would make a bit more sense as it does indeed pass Cov and if you ignore the fact that most of the journey would actually be on the M1 it is sort of one straight road.

Anyway, I'd brush up on your map reading skills as well Laughing

God dammit you are right, I mean the M40 not M60 /facepalm

No they are rare, only going for a work conference for the day and i bloody hate the train.

Yes Fazer as you have brought nothing to the conversation but boring memes, they can be funny if used right. Rolling Eyes
