I fancy taking the ZZR to Germany this summer. The snag is the bike is 27 years old. It's never let me down in 5 years and 30k miles, but I would like the peace of mind from European breakdown cover, which the age precludes.
Any ideas please? I think it's too old for normal cover, but too young for a classic policy. Ta!

I didn't think the likes of RAC had a preclusion on the age of vehicle - they'd just make you pay for it.

Can you not do a one off trip cover with them?

I thought I'd checked with them - but I'll try again. Thanks 'arry!

I've just been on the RAC website, and it is available - I'm not sure why I didn't find it when I looked previously! It's double what it'd be if I was to go on the Panigale though - which is the bike named on the ferry booking. I'll see if the thought of a few days in the Black Forest on a Panigale is worth a 1200 mile motorway slog though, I'll revise this nearer the time..
Again, thanks 'arry!

Interesting. My CX is nearly 37 now. I was hopi g to take that to Europe at some point. Hopefully won't be problematic.

I don't foresee any snags - but it's nice to have the cover - especially on a 1990 bike. It's not given me any snags yet, but I'd hate to have one there. Saying that it'd be an experience on a Pani', especially when at the Ring. Anybody know any decent chiropractors!?!

It might be worth looking at ADAC cover. They are German and if you're outside of Germany you can't use the website - you need to phone them up, but I found them to be cheaper and it's annual cover rather than for a limited period.

You could get yourself a Nationwide PlexPlus current account. Yes it costs £10 a month but you get UK and Euro breakdown cover, travel insurance, commission free cash withdrawals abroad and a few other bits included. Perfect account for touring Europe.

I don't bother with recovery anymore, If I ever breakdown I'll just pay for it there and then. If you go direct it's not /That/ expensive £1 a mile or so.

84 Euros for the year, any vehicle, any age.

They got my bike home from Northern Italy when I broke my collarbone on a MTB. It took a couple of weeks but it got here in the end. They even got me a private ambulance ride to Milan airport (3 hours away) and a flight back home when my travel insurance provider refused to pay out. Thumbs Up

so they cover anywhere in Europe /union ..

what about a German address ?

one policy per person by the look of it ... so both my Van and bike would be covered ? Thinking

what this man says. I have just done this. the breakdown cover (in the uk at least) is run by Britannia rescue. they don't specify the age of the vehicle Thumbs Up I checked this as mine is 18 now.

Adac, I took out family cover for €109. Myself and the wife covered in any vehicle for a year, and Europe travel insurance for the year for myself, wife and baby son.
Info service number on the card I have:
0800 5101112

Number I used to get cover originally:
00-49-94-15-23-44

You don't need a German address if you phone them, but their website is set in such a way that you can't buy online without a German address. When I phoned them they put me through to a fluent English speaker who was very helpful. They then emailed me details etc and I confirmed / corrected my address etc.
