Nope, making it warm just makes it more runny and comes out easier.

And yes, remove bolt and then replace bolt.

You're supposed to torque up the oil drain bolt to the required torque as the sump is often alloy while the bolt is steel and over tightening and cause damage.

Me? I tighten it then give it a tiny turn to tighten it.

You do not need to drain the oil to remove forks.

^^ This.

A jack/blocks/brick/etc under the engine, just enough to lift the front wheel off the ground. Wheel off, forks off, job jobbed.

Any particular reason why you can't just take the top yoke off to get at the ignition?

What he said, ^^^ they usually need quite a firm tug to pull apart. Hold one side with pliers for better grip.
Make sure they are snapped together firmly before final reassembly.

b) posted pics below- I'm wondering if it might be easier to just loosen that bolt and take actual indicator bulbs off to avoid tampering with wire.

Seriously I thought some of the other guys were being a bit harsh... but really I think the most economical thing for you to do is call recovery and have them deal with it. For the amount of time and money on tools you are spending you could already be back on your bike for what equates to a couple of beer tokens.

I am all for learning how to do things on your own, and I am at that stage now doing my own oil filters, spark plugs, pads etc. But with each thing you are pulling off you are increasing the chances of fucking up putting it back together again. Working in the dark is not going to help this.

Start with the simple things and work your way up.

Kymco bikes have sealed motors which come with oil already filled. The oil lasts the life of the bike, NEVER change the oil, it's not a service procedure.
