That's ridiculous. Castle Combe is already very restrictive on noise at trackdays, actually passing every bike through scrutineering and measuring the noise (from half a metre instead of a metre) and not letting anyone out who fails the 105db test. I've seen bikes with standard cans fail.
The circuit has been there since 1950 and so I'm pretty sure it has been around longer than 95% of the residents. They knew it was there? What did they expect? People annoy me... |

If you don't like noise why the hell buy a house next to a race track?! Bikes are noisy, if you don't like it, move house. ____________________ A big enough hammer fixes anything! |

I remember seeing a woman on the TV, they bought a house right next to a railway line. She was crying and making a big fuss about it. Cracking on about how noisey it was, how she couldn't sleep, was nearly having break downs etc.....
You bought the house right next to the frickin railway line....
Know that way you get angry at the telly, that was me!
I wouldn't mind staying right next to a track, just wheel my bike round every weekend! ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

GRRRRRR. That makes me so mad! Castle Combe is an awsome circuit that is having trouble surviving due to these utter dopes that didnt think about where they were moving to. They already cant have certain races there thanks to them. Bet they wernt complaining when they bought the house at a cheaper price DUE to the fact that it is near a race circuit!
I've been up there many times to sprint and marshall etc and I have seen some of the things people have to do to get their vehicles throught the already very tight scrutineering rules. One guy had a twin exhaust on his car and had to mallet one of the exits shut so it reduced the noise! OTT maybe, but he was in a season and couldnt afford not to race.
Assholes all of them! ____________________ An expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field |

Castle Combe has been having this trouble for years now,it's certainly the most stringent track i've been to for noise checks and they are always monitoring you during the day. I had a friend on an RS250 with standard pipes who just passed the tests but got pulled in to be rechecked during the day each time we went.
Come on,it's a racetrack for gods sake not a bleeding monastery, what do you you expect ____________________ Nothing gets the point across quite like a raised middle digit.

Whilst I agree with all the "you knew you were moving next a race track what did you expect" and "but it's been there since the 50s" comments, it's worth having a read of the actual noise complaint. I had a quick look last night (can't remember the link), and rather than just a general complaint about the noise, I think the complaint was about them applying to change their usage agreements from what had already been agreed.
I don't think the proposed change would actually increase the amount of tracktime, so I'm not entirely sure what the complaint was - I think they don't like noise on Sundays and they wanted to change a Saturday race day to a Sunday or something - but it's worth bearing in mind that it wasn't just a general complaint.
I think the Castle Combe people should make it a bit more clear to their supporters what the actual problem is, as I don't think loads of people just writing to their councillors saying the above things would be constructive. ____________________ About me|@Major_Grooves|My company|Digg|Flickr |

Hi guys
I meant to post something about this last week before I went away. It's been floating around the motor racing forums for a little while now.
The main meeting in question is the one I alway go to, the British F3/GT meeting. The complaint about the GT (Le Mans type) cars being too loud. (Not to mention the other things the circuit wants to do.)
However, it's only for two days a year...!! So, as you can imagine, the GT teams are wondering what all the fuss is about!
That meeting alone makes almost 2.5 million quid for the local ecomony on those two days. And has been shown to pump in about 10 million over the course of the year with extra tourism and visitors.
A lot of the council members are actually fighting the circuits corner, but more letters to the councillors will be really good ammunition in the long run.
The teams have to do so much to the cars to get them under the decibel limit as it is, and this year they want to make it even lower. In 2003 we had all sorts of problems trying to make the car get under the limit, including almost setting it on fire when the exhaust packing ignited during qualifying!!
Please help the circuit in any support you can guys, it's going to end up affecting everything, including bikes in the short and long term.
Oh yeah, I agree with the 'Why buy a house next to a race track if you want peace and quiet!' ____________________ Colin McRae MBE 1968 - 2007 RIP
