Hi please can anyone advise, Just took my 1998 900 diversion out for a short run and noticed on tick over there's a slight rattle/ knocking coming from the engine. It's done 68000 and apart from that the engine is very smooth and quite, is this anything to worry about as I'm not really used to 4 strokes.Cheers.

Where abouts in the engine does the knocking seem to be coming from?
Top, middle or bottom?

I got the bike in June last year and it has had a full service in February so I would have thought the carbs were done then. The carbs seem ok as it starts runs and ticks over really well. It's just the knocking sound. I don't know if it was just me but it seemed less loud when I put the bike away

You have a bit of crank shaft end float. Divi's seem to show it more than most. Ride on into the sunset, it'll probably go round the clock, twice. Belting bikes.

I would absofuckinglutely love to know how you diagnosed that from the symptoms?

Lets not forget now that Div900's are an old air cooled design that is inherently noisier than a water cooled bike so without the damping effect of a coolant jacket they will make noticable noises that on other bikes aren't heard.

Had a few Divis through my hands, including my brothers, five of them.
One made exactly this kind of noise. Once they got above 40 - 50,000 miles they all had a touch of this rattle.
I should have added, does it do it on the sidestand? If so, its as definite as I can be without physically seeing/hearing it.

If the rattle is more pronounced on the sidestand, I'll put money on it.
How many Divis have you had....?
