As the title says, my dads bike needs its mot, i will be borrowing it but can get a mot on the day i need it, but can i take it with it not being in my name?

I have taken my fathers bike and ex gf for MOT before. Also taken gf/fiancée/wife's car before.

Pro tip: take an old MOT* so they can easily enter all the details, best to get the tester on your side Wink

^ wouldn't bother to be honest... searched around for mine last time as I was taking it a it early, but wanted the full 13 months...

it's all on the computer anyways, they don't need it.

Assuming insured - if mot has expired, pre-book new one... just in case you get stopped en-route. Thumbs Up

MOT cert or V5 is appreciated by my tester - reading the VIN and getting numbers right can be a pain on many bikes, but it's easy to check it against one that is written down.

I have done this very thing for a friend and the Chinese bike he bought. Unfortunately said friend did not do all the things I recommended and I wound up having to change the chain of his bike in the place that he worked (Lidl).

I assume anyone can have a vehicle MOTed... its the bike/car thats being MOTed not the rider :p

In my case because of my current situation my dads going to have to take my bike down to the testing place on a bike trailer as I cant take it down myself... My MOT runs out around the end of the month.


But I didnt know about the V5, ill get my dad to take it with him.

if it's out of MOT but is taxed and insured then you can ride to a pre-booked MOT legally...

1) No need to be taxed when riding to or from a pre-booked MOT, or to have remedial work done (strictly speaking, work identified by the MOT).

2) Watch out for insurance that requires the vehicle to have a valid MOT - that's becoming quite popular.

3) And as always, if riding someone else's bike on your "other bikes" cover, check whether your cover requires their bike to have an extant insurance policy covering it.
