Just realised some thieving prick has not only stolen my tax disc, but the holder as well...least I'm pretty sure they have as it was screwd on real tight.

Anyway are these any good? There's no description, but they're motrax security bolts.
Or alternately anyone else know how to secure a tax disc?

Put the tax disc in your wallet, and put a note in the holder saying "tax disc with owner".

Scan the disc and laminate it. If it gets nicked it's only a copy. The rozzers won't notice unless they look extremely close, and you can produce the original should you have to.

I second flatspot's suggestion - i've always done this since i've been riding because my dad always used to get the tax disk nicked. On the back of the scanned copy, have a note saying "this is a copy of the original with owner." If for instance the police want to look at it or ask for further verification, they can check with the DVLA (which they'd probably do anyway) and/or ask for the original. When i was doing my bikesafe day, a fellow participant experienced a similar situation, so i told him to scan etc and the police seemed to agree. Oh be sure to write that it's a copy because they can do you for forgery (i've been reliably informed). Now u can save money and get those cheapo £2 tax disk holders! and 15-60 quid on road tax too!

It's also an offense to do 31 in a 30 zone, but in reality you're not going to be done for it if you can stick your hand in your pocket, pull it out and say "Here it is, I've had problems with them being stolen in the past, officer".

i just have a copy of the tax disc on display, the real one is always in my jacket pocket with my license and my card and cash just in case i get stranded or something!

My tax disk is in a carbon fibre tax disk holder, which is bolted to my front caliper mount. So when the steering lock is on, You can bearly see the taxk disk unless you get on all fours :p (I have a side stand)

Them security bolts are pointles mate. If they want it they will snap the tax disk holder off and leave the bolt!

Does your seat come off, If it does then stick it under your seat. I know its an offence to not display the tax disk, But they can find out if you have paid tax by puting your reg plate into the computer so you wont get done.

I asked my dad and he said hed never nick sombody for not displaying tax on their bike, His tax disk has been nicked before so he understands. he also said it will take a really arsey copper to do you for that.

The tax disc isn't what people check when they get back to their bikes.

Might start keeping mine under the seat as (lets face it) they look crap. I once rode with the disc in my wallet for six months and never had a problem.

I bought a sexurity bolt, well worth it they cant remove it from the bike you can also use them on your flashy end cans as well, keeps the thieveing scroats at bay
