They may not even offer you the average price, or even the value you stated when you took out the insurance, which is what I found. They sent a cheque which I didn't cash immediately. What I did was to gather some advertised examples from MCN etc, to show what it would cost me to replace with a bike of similar mileage and condition. When I submitted these to the insurance company, they immediately issued a further cheque to cover the discrepancy from their first offer, without further argument.

If it had been written off, you'd already have an offer. You mean it's wrecked and you expect it'll be written off.
If you'd bothered to tell us what make and model, mileage and anything else distinctive about it, we'd probably do the Googling for you just for larks.
