Chinese?

Any of you guys bought a chinese bike off E-Bay. Honda and Yamaha have sold there designs to these guys. I bought one off E-Bay to sell and make a profit, but can`t comment on the build quality just yet as it has not arrived in port (don`t worry , it`s C.O.D)

Just appreciate your thoughts as you seem to get a lot of bike for very little money .I appreciate that the Japs have been doing this kind of thing for a long time now, but what`s your thoughts?

My main conerns would be how warrenty (if there is one) issues could be sorted, and the availability of spare parts
But still, for £1000 you might have found yourself a real bargin - let us know what you think when/if it arrives.

I don't think much on these bikes at all, I wouldn't consider one full stop.

If you were sensible, you'd get a second hand bike from a more reputable but still cheap company, such as hyosung and kymco. At least they have dealers over here and have been around for some time!!!

That bike in particular looks very plasticky/tacky. Brake discs front and rear. It's screaming out poor quality. But hey.....I could be wrong...they're just a big gamble. stick with what I done, second hand kymco(as well as hyosung)

The build quality is good in general, but the chrome is of the rapid rust variety and the electrics are pretty dire. It is indestructable however. It's great to learn on, the biggest damage I have done to it is a slightly bent clutch lever and a dented tank. A bit slow, but I get on with it pretty well.

(Tacho went wacko, sidelights blown and have unsourceable bulbs, headlight is rubbish, the wiring to the rear brake light cluster runs under the rear mudguard, and got clarted up with grime, and hence fell to pieces.)

It cost me a grand brand new. My main problem is that it isn't just rare, no-one at all knows what is! (though it's really a CM125 clone with a CG125 engine...)

Build quality good, but things like the forks getting pitted pretty rapidly and the dodgy electrics pissed me off. Oh, and some barstewards stole my toolkit whilst it was parked at the Co-op.

Chinese bikes are actually qite good. I think china makes more bike's than any other country in the world at the moment, and they do a decent job of it.

Many actually use a jap bikes engine, or in the case of some like Jialing, they are dated designs made under licence i think.

Well , I've owned a Chinese bike in the past and God I wish that I had never seen one, because they may look good but their build quality is crap and I do mean crap. Just wait until you start riding in heavy rain for a while and electrical connnection block get filled with rain water and short out the system out. Also, the metal pin that keeps throttle from moving around the handlebar can pop out from out of it's plastic housing. The Chinese made tyres are shite because you'll only get about 5 months use out of them through moderate use. Changed the headlight bulb & indicators within 7 months from new.

Bikerite, Glasgow, used to sell Chinese bikes but quickly gave up on them because they were regularly having to fix them for electrical problems, etc.

Don't go near them !

Thanks for the replies. My main bike is a Honda Dominator for the bad weather followed by a Kawasaki GPZ500s, when the weather comes good. This bike that i have bought , not the one pictured is a money earner. Not for me but for someone starting out, who wants cheap transport..Plan to sell it it at double the cost, but if they are really as bad as you guys think and the quality stinks then i think i`ll lower the price as i like to be able to sleep at night.
But saying that for less than a grand you get a cheap bike!

could be like brittish leylands cars in the late 70's early 80's you can get a good one or a bad one or one somewhere in between, possibley needs a little bit of work and is otherwise good or has loads of problems

you may have got a bargan or you may not time will tell

The thing is - what are you really expecting from something cheap?

I doubt very much that you'd get anywhere near "double cost" price if you sell it on, even if it does turn out to be high quality etc...you can get a CG or CBR125 for just over £2k new, or a good used XR250 for under £2k.

"Made in China" does necessarily mean bad quality, but usually "mass produced". Of course, this is normally associated with a number of downsides, which could contribute to generally poorer build quality etc. Plus you don't get any warranty (unless it's from a dealer) and support etc.

my next door nabour had an accerdent meaning it was hard for him to ride a bike, soo he brought a twist n go 400,
its a chinese copy of a honda thing, ugly as fook lol
he got it for £1300 on the road new with warnty ect,
its got a few more clever gadgets than the oringal too,
remote start, radio ect,
however it is starting too rust on the exhust atm hes only had it for 6month,
but all in all hes very happy with it,

Are you getting the 125 or 200cc version?

The 125 has some market, but is still underpowered compared to similar 125 bikes, so you can't charge too much over what you're paying.

There is a feature on these Aisan counterparts in this months ride magazine. it features a CG125 against the eqivalant conterpart which is a 1/3 of the price.

There advice - steer clear.

seems more like a piece of $h!t to me, seen a bike on ebay a while ago that someone posted up on the forums and it was like a nsr (cant remember that well due to being drunk last night but owell) and it was 200cc, most the members were laughing at it because it had only 10KW of something or other (mabe power? i know f00k all about bikes) altho after looking around on nsrs a bit the nsr has exactly the same just 125cc not 200cc, anyways my point is it just looks like another cheap imported pile of crap, the reason why there so cheap could be because in china they make these bikes really cheap and sell in the poorer places so everyone can get around quick, o and i love the name of the bike "Hongdou" possibly a honda rip off? me tinks ill save my cash
