Hi guys,

I am thinking of selling my r6 as have not used it for over 2 years and probably won't use it for another few years

But i am finding it hard to let it go:(

It is 2005 with around 18k on the clock

It has power commander, sp engineering exhaust and braided lines plus short lever brake and more

Do you think 3500 is reasonable?

What is best time to start listing it ?

Auto trader is £40 for 6 weeks

Seems steep.

Completed listings on ebay show a range of £2.2-3k for an 05.

Asking prices.

Look at selling prices. eBay advanced search -> Sold listings.

Note that this also throws up BIN / best offer adverts which are still asking prices. Bidding prices reflect what people want to pay, and that's £2250 - £2750. And note that's what they bid, it doesn't imply that amount of money actually changed hands.

And you may find someone who values that. Or you may not.

Does it have a year's MOT? What would the MOT history show when people check it (and they will, if they've got half a wit).

If you want £3500, list it at that with the usual "best in the country, never seen the rain, very reluctant sale, NO TIME WASTERS!!!!" spiel, but I wouldn't expect a lot of interest from genuine buyers at that price.

It also hasn't been ridden for two years and will need a considerable amount of work doing to it before I'd be comfortable riding it.

High £2K's £3K max.

Now. You could start slapping it on Gumtree as a freebie, it costs you nothing. We can appraise your advert honestly and send your blood pressure up a bit higher.

I hate Gumtree but it's free. Dunno if sticking a classified advert on eBay leads to less time wasters, judging by the amount of (auction) bikes that are relisted I guess not.

Take good pics, I listed over the easter weekend and got hardly any interest (although I did sell the flyscreen Smile), the following bank holiday weekend I relisted for the same amount. I added close-ups of damage on the bike and one with the paperwork etc. laid out... got loads of interest and sold it within 2 days Confused

Now. Summer is coming, the sun is starting to shine and all the dreamers are wishing they had a bike.

Best time to sell is now.

They go pretty quickly on this bookface group, quite active.

Also exhaust the free options:

Gumtree, Shpock, Forums

I find ebay classified my favourite. Pitch it reasonably and it will sell. If you haven't had a nibble in a week, drop the price a bit.

And don't put 'no time wasters', it's bloody insulting. If someone travels 100 miles to buy your bike and then rejects it, chances are there is something about you haven't disclosed.

it's like Gumtree but the users are all girls in their knockers having pillow fights and digging bikes out of piles of leaves.

Take the power commander and other parts off, and sell them seperately, as mods don't increase the value of a bike generally.

Kinda. Just more convenient imo. Your ad won't expire, and you get notifications on your phone, and it makes the haggling process easier. I've sold shit on there quicker than gumtree.

Do people actually use Gumtree?

I thought it was full of nicked pit bikes and people wanting a "Swop 4 a Staffie pup m8, gr8 d0g".

eBay 99p starting bid, get it gone. Just ensure you can string a sentence together and take in focus photos.

I sold my SV using Gumtree. Got a few usual "Is it fast will you take £2.99" questions but it worked and saved paying eBays rape fees.

Er, yes. All my ex-bikes were sold through Gumtree with free ads. It's a perfectly decent platform.

It's people selling through Facebook that baffles me.

Following the "if you know, you know" ads?

FB seems to work OK for selling if you are, for example, sticking a track bike up for sale in a track bike group/page.

Just bought a bike through Gumtree (well advertised via Gumtree anyway) - was fine, guy selling was decent chap.

There are some ropey sellers though for sure.

I follow a page on Facebook called "THE BIKE BAY"

There's quite a few bargains to be had on there, which seem to sell pretty quick. There's a lot of fantasists wanting top dollar for sheds too, but they're generally ignored.
