Sounds better than I thought, I was wondering why on earth you would want to go to a museum, when you want to ride the toughest track in the world.

I have got to attempt 2 or 3 trackdays before hand as I havnt done one before, so we could meet up and get to know eachother a bit better before the trip.

To be honest Sammy, I'm not treating it as a "track". On a trackday you have perfect road surface (well, as near as) and the tracks are small enough that by the time you've done ten or a dozen laps you have a good feel for them - that's when you can start winding the pace on.

Now, there is no-way we'll able to do that at the Ring. Ignoring the fact that some of the surface is very dodgy and there will cars etc to contend with, you have a 13 mile circuit to "learn" instead of a 2-3 mile circuit. I've heard people say that you need hundreds of laps to learn it, and you can't (or shouldn't) be nailing it hell for leather if you don't know what's round the next bend. Watching videos it looks like there are quite a few corners that could easily catch someone out if they didn't know what they were doing. That is why I intend on treating it more like a road than a track.

Thank you for that info silver. I have watched the ghostrider one a few times, and seen that some corners have shocking surface, just wanted to do the trackdays first to get a feel for it.

Silver's spot on,the best way to view the 'ring is as a fast A road. Everyone's going the same way and you know where the road goes but anything can be round the next corner a crash, coaches, oil slicks anything, and also some very fast locals who want you out of the way asap.
The only way a trackday will help is that you will know both your and your bikes limits a bit better so you can ride within them at the 'ring.

Dates seem to be the last thursday of July.

He has emailed these about multiple bike parking, and they said

Good Morning

Thank you for your mail message.

There should be no problem for 6 motor cycles to travel together. Obviously
the earlier you make your reservations
the more likely that there will be sufficirnt space for you travel
together. We operate a sailing approx. every hour on the Dover to Calais
route
and you will need to make a separate booking for each of the vehicles.

So I am guessing that they will be squeezing us into a few car parking spaces, and that there will be no problems with that. Other than that the only thing I know is that we //may be staying at the Hotel an der Nurburgring.(something like that.) At a cost of around 30E B&B.

l,m sure that on the ferry if there is no spare bike padocks, we could strap two bikes together in oppersite directions (side stands in wards) so they both support each other.

you'd be suprised actually how they are strapped down....

when i went to ireland the bike was parked up in an area under some stairs and i had one strap to go over the bike and tied down on the floor either side.

when i went to spain the bikes were just parked right on the edge of the ship on the car deck and a strap just put over them - i've never seen any sort of proper bike parking....

I've been on quite a few ferries and the best i've seen is a ratchet strap over the seat and into pockets on the floor, the worst was a pile of short ropes on the floor and some fixed cables on the floor to tie your own bike onto. As long as the bike isn't left on a center stand and is left in gear with the ties good and tight they tend to stay in place fine.P&O tend to be better than most when i've used them but the chunnel is best as the bikes just don't move about at all.

ive personally been for the tunnel more than the ferry, but it depends on the mass vote really.
ive always had a bit of a worry about the strap down methods, where as ill be with my bike the whole time on the tunnel

just to add, ive been playing gt4 and the ring track is bloody good fun, im shite at it but its still fun

I'll probably take my own rachet straps too, as I know they work (and don't scratch the fuck out of the paintwork!). I was a bit dubious at first but they keep an upright bike solid whilst upright on a trailer.

ok, firstly im just bumpin this, as i dont wanna start looking through pages to find it

date: 28th july-1st august
accomidation:hotel(dunno which one yet)
who:redbaron, andy99, silver, v4forlife, drummer, sammyboy, bath of kylies
how: ferry prob, but poss tunnel

as said, doing the distance in a day isnt hard, but i dought youll be up for a grueling lap of the ring afterwards, and we will be stopping prob every hour to 1 1/2 hours, for stretching and more likely petrol.

does any one know of a site where you can plot multiple points, so i can see where every one lives, and see about poss a few people staying at mine over night the night before, and poss when we get back.

As the plan is to get a morning ferry or chunnel why don't we just find out who lives too far away to do that part of the trip that morning and find somewhere for them to stay. I would have thought most of us don't live too far from Dover to do that in a couple of hours.

i was thinking along the lines of getting us into as small a number of different groups and doing it that way, so that finding each other isnt a hassle, like maybe 2 groups of 3 coming from the north and then from the west ish way.

I'm still interested in coming, bit interested by your choice of dates as that will be a very busy holiday time (just thinking of the ferry/train booking).
