Well today i've had my first crash after just two days of riding on my (new to me) bike.

I was slowing to turn left when I came accross a lot of mud, thinking that I should use my front brake when going in a straight line I apply it, ofcourse I then go flying off when the bike immediately hits the dirt.

Why didn't they teach me about braking in my CBT apart from, "front brake when going straight, back break when turning" ?

Anyhow, damage is the right indicator, back brake pedal is bent and broke off causing the back brake to stay on. The accelerator handle is also slightly bent.

I rode it back to my grandparents which thankfully was half a mile away and noticed another problem which im yet to diagnose. When in neutral it revved normal, and when I changed to first it pulled away ok. Yet as soon as I fully released the clutch lever the revs dropped to nothing and the bike stalled. I had to ride back whilst applying a small amount of pressure to the clutch which stopped this from happening. Any ideas about that?

Ohh and I was wearing full gear so I got away with no injuries or scratches.. not even a bruise!

lol. I had a minor accident yesterday when the back tyre skidded out due to ice on the pavement as I pulled out of my mates driveway. Also the second day I had my bike.......... What are the chances? Two muppets both have a crash two days after they get their bike and on the same forum. Luckily my bike was fine, although I was only wearing jeans and grazed my leg but nothing serious.

i had an accident the other week while cornering, it went really tight, and i went looking at the field instead of the corner, ended up ditching the bike in a farmer field!!

I think his instructor meant to say if you have to brake mid-corner, then do not use the front - use the back. I think that is sound advice.

Did you ever learn to ride a bicycle? Pulling a front brake on mud is a fucking stupid idea, and you say "I was slowly turning to the left", so why did you use the front anyway?

I'm sure you're instructor never told you to pull the front brake when your in extremely low traction conditions, at best its 50/50 like in the rain, but in mud I would use the rear and rely on engine braking

Kye you shouldn't try and quote someone if you quote them wrongly. I didn't say I was slowly turning left I said I was slowing to turn left. So I was going in a straight line.

As for riding a bicycle I've never had any problem on mud with one from which to learn from. Guess I must of always 50/50ied when riding a push bike.

It's just a silly mistake thats all. We all make mistakes. I pulled the front brake in the rain a few months ago and that resulted in loosing the front end and hitting the ground. It's just something you do without really realising I guess.

Just get up, dust yourself off and carry on as normal. Thats what I did and didn't regret it.

mastering braking takes years of practice and loads of crashes,
you dont realy start learing to ride untill youve passed your test and even tho you probably feel fairly confident at the moment just give it a year or so and youl see wot i mean,
you should never brake in a corner unless you really need to but if you do you will probably need to stop pretty damn fast so i tend to try and square the corner off, using front brake slightly aswell as rear but make sure your not on a loose or slippy surface, if you are you should try and brake before it gets slippy then keep the bike as upright as posible, i wouldnt advise you to try using your front brake in a corner untill you feel confident in the feel of it, use your rear brake/engine braking only if you run into a corner too fast and just need to scrubb abit of speed off,
dont take all this too literally as it is best to just find your own way
