Hi all

I'm new to the forum and have only had my bike 1 year

It's a Suzuki 125 and I spoke to the people who I got it from and from another mechanic who said that fitting a POD filter on to the carb would not need a re-jet as everything else is standard on the bike so the other day I got up the courage to do it

Now I'm just paranoid that it's going to be running lean however I've took her out about 5 times and she's actually running and idling beautifully with seemingly no problems. I've noticed a split second hesitation in 4th but that was also there with the air box

What should I be looking for to check if it's lean and any advice would be great. I personally feel she runs smoother with the pod and is more responsive when the throttle is cracked up than she was before but would appreciate some advice

If it's running lean the spark plug insulator will look very white and glazed, by insulator I mean the one inside the engine not the one where the lead plugs in.

I thought I had to check at the top of the spark plug to see if it's tan

How would I check the insulator inside the engine-do I take spark out and shine a torch inside there?

Are there any other signs of a lean running engine

It'll be really hard to make it run right. Your mate who is a mechanic or whatever sounds like he's talking nonsense.

According to those pictures my spark plug looks like the top one in all honesty. It has a lovely tan colouring under the tip

You might get lucky, just keep an eye on the plug for a while. Don't sweat it too much, you'd unlikely to melt the piston.

What I'd expect you to notice is some hesitation when cracking the throttle open from idle. Every carbed bike that I've meddled with has run better when I've put the stock airbox back on.

However, if it's running right and sounding better (can't beat that mighty 125 roar... Whistle) you're good. Plenty of us dick around with our bikes and get away with it.

For future reference we have a Workshop section for technical questions.

Thanks for the reply-yeah at the minute I can crack open throttle hard from idle with no hesitation or problems at all. Ill ride it and check the plug after every ride

Is there anything really major that might happen that I need to look out for

I have none of the popping on decel, no hesitations, it doesn't struggle to start up or anything

The only thing I've noticed might be a slight loss of power but that might just be in my head because I'm looking for something wrong
