Two week bike holiday

Hi folks,

Im going to MotoGP in Donnington in July via bike, and Im considering making the trip into a full on two-week holiday to Italy and back.

I figure I will need around £900 for the trip, on the basis of £15/day petrol, £30/day accomodation, £10/day food = £750 or so + a bit extra. Anybody done this before and can confirm this price?

What's required to get from Britain->Italy in terms of paperwork and border related stuff?

I'd probably go on my own on a sportsbike (possibly my SZR660 if I havent changed by then), and I dont think Id camp (unless its practical?).

Any experience appreciated.

I did a 11 day trip with my mate about 10 years back, we booked a 6 day trip with MCi tours https://www.mcitours.com/ to Interlaken. We all rode through france, stopping off for 1 night in dijon in small groups, then spent a few days doing different rides round the alps once we had set up base at our hotel halfway up a swiss mountain. At the end of the 6 days when everyone else headed off home we rode to the A1 ring in Austria for the wsbk round, stopping for a night at zel am zee on the way there, on the monday after the race we headed off to Cortina in Italy. We camped there for 1 night, then headed back into Switzerland the following day and spent a night at a campsite in Zurich. When we got up the following day the weather had turned crap and the forecast wasn't getting better so we packed up & rode home. We couldn't find anywhere to stop once we got near calais, same again at dover so we ended up riding all the way home. Zurich to Oldham, 800 miles. Never again!!!! Overall the trip was great though. Did the 6 days in Switzerland part of it again the following year.

Thanks for the help, good point with the YHA.

One thing I forgot to ask is how do you navigate in foreign countries? Is GPS useful?

Do you just buy a map at the border crossing?

You could probably buy maps on the 'net.

I'd expect to spend more than £15 a day in petrol, does depend on how far you go though.

This is all we saw of the France/Italy border control last summer, it was completely unmanned. Mike didn't even bother to take his passport Rolling Eyes

£900 sounds quite a lot, I'd expect a touch less than that. Though remember to budget in a set of tyres.
