insurance is due on the 27th
but we are currently subject to contracts on our new house.

when i spoke to thieving robbing bastards they told me £32.50 to change address and that's just for admin.

when i asked how that is not profiteering they explained that the bulk of that cost is to pay for updating the insurance database.

so what du ?

if its of any significance the robbing basts in question are MCE.

I think I'd be grateful to get away with so little, which is a sad indictment of the state of play. Depending on how long it's been running, and what the premium is on a new quote at the new house, you could consider just cancelling and getting a new policy.

Or depending on how salty and lucky you're feeling, you could inform them by post, and hope that they don't bother chasing it up.

And if you're at about an 11 on the salty-luck scale, getting free proof of postage for sending them... something... would be your balance of probability evidence that you did so tell them about the change of address.

You just have to grin and bear it.

You may move to a lower rate area and get a refund that'd cover the paperwork cost... Shocked

What did the terms of business document you were given at the point of sale say?

Its done over the phone and i made the point of getting the chap to triple check. i suspect the paperwork reflects accurately what he is advising.

indeed...
also MCE quote for the renewal and the cost to change address is still cheaper than the next quote on compare the market.

I suspect I will just have to count it as a cost of moving house.

I very much doubt you didn't receive a terms of business in writing but please do tell me that is the case; it would make for a very swift complaint and waiving of fee.

Well timed thread.

We've just bought our first house and the OH called Bennetts yesterday to change her address and got stung with the £32 admin charge. Fine, we expected that.

Our bikes however have not moved and will still be kept in a rented lock-up not too far away (which was already declared) until we get round to building a garage, so absolutely no increased risk due to different area etc. Bennetts however have arbitrarily increased the OH's premium by £60 [insert ludicrous number of exclamations marks]. Does anyone know if there is an explanation for this? Aside from the usual "robbing bastards; shower of shites" etc

I've got two policies with Bennetts and clearly need to change my address too but I'm hesitant to pick up the phone as I know I'll be in for a proper bumming Sad

it seems a standard thing to rob people to change addresses.

i just get this idea that moving midterm just adds a multiplier to your quote, what else you going to do cancel and pay just as much again.

So it sounds like you're too lazy to check the paperwork yourself that you will have received previously (By mail or email) on a deal you signed up to, and now you're moaning that you signed up for it... Confused

i see little point in reading the small print of the paper work if i honestly do not think it will be different to what the chap is telling me.

If you are fairly sure that the purchase of the new house will go through, I'd be tempted to chance it and re-insure from the 27th at the new address.
