https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=320232

Still trying to get this gs400 to spark. I just fitted new brushes to the starter motor, turns over a bit faster now but still no luck.
When i press the starter button theres a brief flash on the spark plug tester but no constant spark.
any ideas why ??

Help greatly appreciated

are all the block connectors and all other connectors tight/secure. earth wire tight /secure. have you looked inside the kill switch see if any broken/damaged wires. try two earth wires one from the battery to the frame. then one from the battery to the engine mount. then try for a spark at the plugs

As a matter of interest, are the lights/horn misbehaving when ign is on and handlebars turned from lock to lock, neutral light flashes ???

Study the correct wiring diagram for ign circuit, so you can determine voltages to and from the "igniter" black box. If you have a manual, read what that says.

Don't know this bike in great detail which may have a battery dependant ign or the non battery dependent cdi type of system.

What was the voltage drop across the battery when cranking with the plugs in?

Post a wiring diagram please.

Perhaps disable ign kill ( system dependant ) and try again.

The kill switch has run and off positions. If its in the off position the starter button doesnt do anything so i assumed its working ok.
