Hi Guys.

I am a student moved to Manchester from Leeds have a part time job at the trafford centre, parked up in the same place since september, as there are two large cameras and it seemed pretty secure, finished work tonight bike is gone.

My question is do the trafford centre have any culpability for my bike being stolen? it is an indoor car park, i have contacted police and the centre security but obviously I will now need a new bike, I am fully comp,

Thanks in advance.

Si

Sorry to hear that you've been pikied.

Can you show that the centre owed you a duty of care, and failed in it? Probably not, but:

https://www.intugroup.co.uk/en/faq/#Claimspolicy

"It should go without saying that with a million people a day visiting our centres, the safety and security of our staff, tenants and of course customers is our number one priority"

They're also a Safer Parking Scheme site.

https://www.parkmark.co.uk/about-the-safer-parking-scheme

"The distinctive Park Mark signage helps drivers find car parks where they can confidently leave their vehicle, knowing the environment is safer"

I'd get the CCTV and apply some actual human reasonableness to it. If the rat-things scuttle up, screwdriver it and ride away, there's not much the centre could have done.

If they're sparking away with angle grinders and cutting wires for 20 minute, I'd be asking why the on-site security that they brag about didn't take any action.

As always, go straight to a formal complaint early doors. You could also make noises about getting their Safer Parking accreditation pulled.

I don't think you'll succeed, but you might as well have a laugh with it and see if you can make their corporate waffle-spurg actually mean something.

Best of luck.

As Rog has said, if they were working on pinching it for 20 mins or so then why did security not do anything, duty of care failing.

if someone backed up to it with a van, got out, lobbed it in and went then the most you could expect is security to be able to get the reg number of the van.

Bit, horse bolted I know, but it's worth varying where you park at the trafford centre so anyone looking to pinch doesn't see the same bike in the same place for 8 hours every day
