The duke isn't a 'real' sports bike, so should be considerably lower insurance, though it will be raised a bit thanks to the ducati badge. Obviously don't expect the performance the other two will offer (think about half the power for the Ducati).

Yup.

I am 17 with a 1999 CBR 600, garaged, alarm/immobiliser.

(ZXR is slightly cheaper than CBR i think, dunno about Ducati)

Bikes worth about £3500

Insurance TP - £1000
TPFT - £1400

And i rang around ALOT for those quotes.

Remember that if you pass your test legally you wil have to restrict a 600cc bike to 33BHP if you want to legally ride it on the road.

for my '89 FZR600. i'm getting quotes from 900 and slowly getting lower... that's with one accident and a speed fine. (but has registered alarm, restrictors, registered chain, garaged, and a good area code)

The ZX6R is the most expensive 600 to insure. I'm 17 and mine is now £1,300 TPO. Most companies laughed at me but eventually i found Carole Nash would do it. I had a quote for a gsxr600, cbr600, thundercat and R6. They were roughly the same. Then when i bought the ninja they said it was gonna be another £234.

I found the r6 would be more expsenive in general. Did you try other insurers? Different insurers rate different bikes differently.

Yes, my dad phoned around 8-10 for me Mr. Green

Although he only asked about the R6 and thundercat with two brokers.

When phoning around all the brokers I find about say 7 out of 45 might give me good quotes, the rest pretty crap.

So when you go to get insurance I would phone every comapny in biketrader... or have a look at the various lists of companies we have posted.

I hear that.

I rang over 30 at least, went right through Bike and RiDE and then bike Trader for any i hadnt tried. Although the call centres were the same peopel some of the time!

Out of that i got about 3 good quotes being so young on a 600. So it REALLY does pay to ring around.

My XJ600 although no where near as sporty, and about 20bhp down on a ZX6r it cost me about 500 pounds TPFT.

I'm 18, 0NCB, but no claims or speeding fines.

A 17 year old on an r6/cbr6rr/gsx-r6/zx6-r is a high risk. They are very nice bikes, very powerfull and that coupled with a lack of experience isn't going to lead to good things.

I'd imagine at least 1000 pounds on any of those bikes. Depends how much money you've got, as those bikes aren't cheap either.
