My Bike got Nicked

Some thieving little scroats nicked my BurgerVan last night.
I went through all the right channels, phoned the police, phoned the insurer etc. Then got a call back from the police saying that it had been reported. Only a few hundred yards away by some garages. Unfortunately, it's taken a bit of a beating.

If I go down the route of insurance (they told me that at this stage I haven't made a claim, only logged it) then I lose my NCD and £300 excess off whatever they value the bike at... which probably isn't much. Also, I just got a Compare the Market quote as if I was looking for a fresh new one and it went up from £100 now to £250 with the claim.
However, if I get it repaired privately, nothing happens with regards to the insurance. I still carry on and get two years NCD in August. So it sounds like going down the insurance route isn't going to be financially viable.

I've had a word with my local motorbike garage. The guy there has always been good to me, and he's happy to come and pick it up on Wednesday for assessment. However, as I said, it's in a pretty crappy condition.
They've ripped panels off trying to get in to the seat storage and getting to the ignition barrel. They've torn the wires out of the plug that goes in to the barrel too (to hotwire it, I guess) so I can't even get it started right now.

I just drove back from Somerset to Peterborough via Exmouth yesterday after a stag weekend being very drunk. I haven't got the mental faculties to try and figure this out at the moment.
My car is also needing repairs as it makes a horrific grinding sound when you press the brakes. So the timing of this is incredibly shit as I don't have two pennies to rub together as it is.

I don't think there's much point to this post other than to rant. But I hope the little fuckers that nicked my commuter have karma come and kick them in the ass.

Doesn't surprise me much, they use big cc scoots to steal other bikes with.

Car brakes are a doddle to work on if you have a half decent set of tools, I'm in the middle of doing my own for financial reasons too. Could save yourself a quid or two there.

I suspect you'd be able to get the scoot into a usable condition for much less money than you think too, with liberal use of gaffa tape and crimps. It's a shit situation to be in mind.

I didn't have any security on it. Stupid, really. I won't be making that mistake again.
It had a rain cover on, and the steering lock, but that's it. I took the chain with me to the stag do as I had my pushbike on the back of the car and wanted to secure it if I went to get some lunch etc.

I'll weigh up my options when the wife comes home. I need a vehicle for work (20 miles with one bus that is less frequent that Halley's Comet) and she needs the car for school runs and work too. Hopefully, I can borrow my mum's for the time being.

At any rate, I'm pissed off.

I agree on bodging it. It's 18 years old, you don't want to be paying even Mate's Rates to have it sorted.

Some local yoofs used to always break in to cars where I had to occasionally park mine. It was a shitty cavalier but it used to right piss me off that each time the broke in they would poke a new hole through the door skin with a screwdriver. There was already a hole in it from the last time you c$nts could you not just re use that! I think the only thing that ever got taken was an empty bottle of wine and some fruit pastels Rolling Eyes

I've toyed with the notion of leaving the keys in before, what tends to stop me is I have a fairly* robust security setup at home so if I leave the keys in there's every chance they'll just whip them out and look for my bike parked up out and about.

*granted nothing will stop a grinder attack which is more prevalent these days but you can only hope to piss them off and slow them down enough to make it not worth the hassle.

In my case, the disc locks would have stopped them from wheeling it down the road to try and steal it properly. They couldn't even get that right. Tossers.
I'm getting it picked up on Thursday for an assessment and quote. Then I'll decide to gamble with the insurance.
In the meantime, I've borrowed my Mum's car. I've never driven a BMW before and I found the 'sport mode' on the way home today.

The garage quoted me over a grand in the end. I decided against that. So I took it back home last weekend.
Listed it on Facebook, Shpock and Gumtree. Had a few £100 chancers. Ended up just selling today for £300. That's not bad going considering the damage and that I only paid £600 to begin with.
