Two NEDs in balaclavas were seen in Craigentinny trying to start it and were chased off (but not caught) by the police.

They should probably consider this to have been the best option for them. The disabled pensioner they took it from is VERY well known and respected in Edinburgh motorcycling circles and things would have gone badly for anyone caught with it (and still will if their identity comes to light).

On a side note. It seems to be Triumphs which are being targetted disproportionately for theft both for joyriding and for parts. Owners of Triumphs in the central belt would be well advised to invest in some beefed up security. I'd suggest a tracker.

Ignition lock and the wiring around it damaged but that appears to be all.

I'm not certain on the circumstances of the theft but my suspicion is it would probably have an element of burglary. To my knowledge, it was kept in a walled rear yard only accessible by going through the house.

Why, somebody oughta.

I guess this rare success was as a result of Operation Actually Do Some Bloody Policing.

Although that itself may have be the result of targetted attacks on coppers.

Sounds like its game on, although I doubt that any significant judicial penalties will follow.

Further news.

Apparently there was a device of some sort taped to the ignition switch connector block when the bike was recovered. Suggests they have an SOP for hotwiring triumphs.

My guess is Roger was well aware of that; and of the fact they'd doubtless claim it anyway, regardless.

They're pretty good for someone with an artificial hip, one leg longer than the other, two toes off, and a finger off his clutch hand.

Anyway, he makes up for it with his other triumph which is an X75 Hurricaine and is kept elsewhere.

Probably good idea to stop buying 2nd hand parts of dubious origin so fueling the market as well. Thumbs Up

Undoubtedly, but I'm not sure everyone else appreciated that.

How do you know (serious question)? Assuming genuine breakers on eBay are ok, but someone breaking a bike on gumtree not?

No easy answer to that one.
Ever since the rise of Ebay there have been sellers selling stolen parts. The easiest way is when a part arrives with a data-tag mark use it to check up on whether the bike was stolen. Also if the part seems extremely cheap question why.
