Is this a thing now? Over the past week I've had to ride in and out of the city centre everyday and there are (car) drivers who seem to straddle two lanes on a 4 lane road (2 in each direction).

I've seen it on the motorway several times. On the motorway it's like they're driving scalextric cars and keep the lines directly under the centre of their cars?

It kind of reminds me a lot of this:

I've had cars ahead of me move half a car width to the left so as to let the bike past without giving up their treasured right hand lane status to other road users. Not a comfortable overtake if I choose to take it.

Have you observed any common factors among the drivers doing this?

Round my way, it's mostly texting minicabbists, texting women, texting women minicabbists and... you know.

HGV's and busses do it because they need the extra room.

Cars do it because the driver is an arsehole

You get a lot of school children driving while studying where you live? :eh:Come to think of it, it might explain some of the driving across the country

I don't think this is a new thing, it's just a car thing. Some times I see a phone, often as not they are just dozy twats (looking at you volvo-man who tried to move into my lane whilst I was level with his front door)

Someone did this to me yesterday. Indicators on, HERE I COME.
I pulled ahead, waited a mile or two and then did it back to them, forcing them into another lane and off the main road (off ramp, not hedge)

2 wrongs.. felt better.
