After recommendation for steel toe cap boots.

Just wondering is there anyone on here that works with steel toe caps. I'm doing about 15-17miles walking a night and using paratrooper boots just isn't cutting the mustard.

So can anyone recommend a good safety boot

Do you actually need toe caps?

Or are you after comfortable walking boots and have decided toe caps would be better than para boots?

I've had lots of toe cap boots over the last 5 years or so, ranging from £20-75 per pair. None of them would cope for long with that sort of mileage, and none would be comfortable either.

I'd suggest hiking boots?

Also, why walking so far?

I once decided (as a fashion thing) to wear my jeans tucked into a set of those boots to visit a friend in Pescara for a long weekend.

Problem was, I forgot they were steelies and had to take the damn things off at the airport security gate. It took me forever to lace them back up, fuckers.

Forgot to take a pair of comfortable shoes with me, too (damn carry on luggage, never enough room for shoes) so I had to suffer the rest of the time I was there wearing cheap plastic flip flops which rubbed blisters, rather than stomp about in the steelies all weekend.

Get trainer type steel toe caps, proper boots are dire for any sort of activity. Only pair I've liked were a pair of Dickies (trainer types) I got from Halfords years ago*.

*they don't seem to do them anymore though

Dewalt apprentice. About 40 to 50 quid. And they don't have a retarded looking special needs obvious toecap either.
Nice to drive or walk in, comfy straight out of the box. I prefer the honey coloured suede ones myself.

I basically live in steelies. College and work both require them. I have a pair of scruffs boots which are OK and I tend to use them when I'm lugging flight cases around, probably a bit too heavy for 15-17 miles walking. I have a pair of generic boots at work which are HORROBLE and I had to put gel insoles in to be able to keep them on all day (apparently I'm not allowed to wear my own :/ ) but I have some Dunlop safety trainers and they are excellent. Nice and lightweight, supremely conformable and no problem wearing all day but if something hits the back of your foot you may as well be wearing flipflop.

I bought some Dunlop ones to replace the Dickies and didn't find them comfortable. Their range seems to consist of the generic cheapo stuff. These [DO NOT GET] after about a week of cycling (don't ask) were trying to decapitate my toes.

Try Haix. German. Not cheap.

I have been buying Haix for the past four or five years.
28 X 12 hr shifts and maybe five or six miles a day and I get about 6 months before the tread wears out.

Work provided Dr Martens boots were good, paid for a pair of Magnums and while they are ok, they are not really fit for walking long distances, of course there are several models as no PPE is the same for every job.

For that mileage you need proper fitting, and once you find ones that are comfortable, buy 2 pairs.

We can claim back the cost of boots with the excuse of poor fitting by the job provided boots, maybe worth having a look at with admin.

one for work one for on the farm

and a brown pair for best

Altberg do a safety boot. I've never worm any Altberg stuff, but they get a lot of recommendations from those that have.
They cost a bit.

Similarly the US made Red Wing safety boots have a good reputation. Again, I've never used them personally and they're not cheap.

Boots I have used
- Scruffs ankle boots in tan suede. Pretty decent, can comfortably wear for a few hours.
- Scruffs trainers with steel toe. Not so good. Light, but the soles were not comfy, made my feet ache if I walked in them too much.
- Makita branded ankle boots. Seem to be sized a bit on the small side. Consequently once my feet get hot and swell a bit during the day, my toes start to but up against the toe cap and they become uncomfortable.

Alternatively, have you tried sorbothane insoles?

Not even a night security guard at a large factory site would have to walk 15miles a night?

To do that sort of mileage a shift on foot, you'd be walking for 6-7hours minimum a shift. Probably more if your carrying gear or tools. Doesn't leave much time left for actually working if your doing a typically normal length shift.
