Yamaha are in bed with Akrapovic, there will be aftermarket exhaust options. They are following the Harley business
model where you need to spend another £700-£1100 to make your bike sound like a bike again after it's been ECO'd half
to death. Smart business move.

It's right on trend though with scrambler look but good handling and ample power.
Actual BHP is not that relevant on big twins it's more about low down torque and it will have enough of that to make you grin.

252kg wet weight according to the yamaha website. Bit of a porker. Ducati claim 186kg for the scrambler. Shame as i like the look of it.

I wouldn't really have a problem with the power alone (assuming it was a 2nd bike) but combined with the lard-arse weight, that would be a 'No Thanks' from me.

But I guess those numbers stack up reasonably against a Harley...

The unmistakable v-twin pulse? It just kind of rattles.

The weight is a bit of a sad story really. The engine is a descendant of the XV line. They were designed as a stressed member, the 535 being simultaneously the best and worst of this, with the vestigial spine frame expanded to form an airbox. Much like some modern Ducatis. Then the XVS line came out with the styling feature of a frame resembling a harley. It seems at no point did they succeed in removing weight from the engine now it is not structural.

Having seen plenty of hipsterised XVs when I inhabited VTF, the SCR950 is so wide of the mark it's not funny.

Also torque figures are mostly to impress the mathematically challenge. Power=torque x rpm (x a constant). You don't get more power with a lower gearing, the engine is doing the same amount of work, but more torque in exchange for less speed is precisey what a gearbox is for.

Powerwise.. new can.. remap.. reduce some weight.. might add 0-5bhp? (akra will likely advertise an extra 10bhp for a full system)

I've seen the ad. It's a shameless cash in on present 'style'. It's heavy because it's a dressed up cruiser, it's got fuck all power because it's a dressed up cruiser, it's belt drive because it's a dressed up cruiser, it advertises 2 3/4" inches of suspension travel because it's a dressed up cruiser.
