I have the Andes jacket and pants. Both are still waterproof after several
years. I don't use them every day, because I have a cheap pair of
RST pants for everyday hacking and Aldi Kevlar jeans for warm weather.

Punctured/split/torn membrane = leaks, no matter how much 'stuff'
you spray on them.

Or you could carry a pair of waterproof over-pants.

I would buy another pair of the pants. I wouldn't buy the jacket again.
It is waterproof, but it is too warm and sticky for at least nine months
of the year. Removing the thermal lining makes it even worse. The smooth
surface of the permanent liner feels like wearing a plastic bag at this time
of year.

If you are willing to pay more for guaranteed waterproof gear,
Gore-TEX is the obvious answer. Alpinestars stuff looks ok, although
it is made in Vietnam, so the build quality is probably similar to the
cheaper stuff (Andes, Bogota etc...)
Or does anyone know if other A-star trousers will work with this jacket (i.e. zip into it)?
I would expect them to fit. If you want to be sure, check for zip fit and
length before you buy. ____________________ Bandit 650SA, ZZ-R1100 |
