Which insurance company do your parents have their home insurance with that covers motorcycles?

We rang up John Lewis (our home insurers) and asked if we bought a old bike to restore if it sat in the garage whilst being worked on if it would be covered and basically they said yes. This is without it being ridden until restored though. As my dad wanted a bike to ride with me, but he likes old bikes like the BSA Bantams etc.

They knew specifically it was a 1961 125cc motorbike that would sit in the garage while it was being restored. :/ Not sure whats going on here now though.

Booking my CBT soon and then next year I will do my A1 test and look to get a YBR Custom. Thanks everyone for all your help it is very much appreciated and I will hopefully see on the road at some point.

Good luck with CBT, don't be failing now though!

There's been some very good and excellent first bike suggestions in this thread, covering all budgets too.

Im not sure on what a YBR custom is, but if it's a proper Japanese built 125 or an Anglo Japanese/Italian bike, it's got to be good!

So after coming across the forum again I decided to give everyone an update on my riding as the last post I made was before I even got a bike. I've now been riding two and a bit years on a CBT riding a YBR125 and have an A2 test booked. I also got MAJORLY hooked on bikes and went from owning the one bike now to having 6 in the garage along with multiple sets of gear. I recently bought a '93 Katana 600 which I've put in serious work to get it running properly again. (Full carb and partial engine rebuild all done by my dad and I). I'll attach pictures at a later date.


Just want to say a huge thanks to all those that gave advice and opinions to me all that time ago as riding has been the best thing I've gotten myself into.
