Off to Luton on Wednesday for short meeting around 12:00.
Any road warriors have road info, work works, hot spots etc places to avoid ( other than Luton)😂
Joining M6 at Preston.
Any road information most welcome..

and if you must take the M6 .... take the toll.

But as above, Train. It's a shit journey and the standard of driving on the bottom half of the M1 leaves a lot to be desired.

M6 has 50mph rear number plate average speed cameras from junction 20-16. Have fun.

IIRC riding back from the BCQ barbecue junction 15-19 were average speed camera'd for smart motorway improvements.

Going through Birmingham it was 30mph for a couple of junctions.

I'd get a train or even travel to Manchester and take a flight.

Its all shit congested motorway, a few open stretches, but a lot of busy parts with a lot of 50 average cameras and road-works.

I ride this part of the m1 a lot. It's boring. I'd get off at 15a and take the a428 to the a6 to Luton, but it will be even slower...

I fairly often do M6 J17 down to Cambridge and back a couple of days later.

Actually that's a huge lie. I don't. I go down the edge of the peaks to Ashbourne, across to the M1 on the A50 and then down the M1 to where the M6 meets the A14.

In any case: a couple of tedious 50mph road works spots on the M6 but the cameras aren't rear facing IIRC so up to you if you risk it.

Quite a long stint of 50mph on the M1 around Northampton area to I think.

On a bike you'll be sweet though. So many people sit below 50 so you can still weave through them slowly.

I'd say you're on for a solid 4 hour journey non-stop.

Oh... train ticket booked...

I also agree you made the right choice.

the 50 is a death trap at the min. Accidents every couple of days. People just switch off and stop paying attention.

Luckily most of the cameras face the wrong way so on a bike you can filter through at 60 and keep out of the way of the bottlenecks.

Train / beer / film. 👍
