Long story short, I was with "Just Motorcycle Insurance" and found they was absolutely fucking rubbish, couldn't understand a word any of the fuckers said (my guess is I was routed to a call centre in Bangalore or somewhere) and their breakdown service is dire. Twice I'd needed to use them and twice I was waiting over 5 fucking hours to be picked up! So I fucked them off.

Now I've just got an all singing all dancing policy with Bennetts with RAC cover, riding other bikes, legal cover, helmet and leather cover etc etc etc...Lots of benefits for about half the price of what I was paying.

Now my question is, I've just made the biggest fuck up of my life and whilst getting my arse off the bike I've dropped my lid. It's not cracked but there is damage to it, now I don't believe in using a lid that's been damaged in any way whether it's visible or not, the question is would I be able to claim through insurance for it or am I gunna have to foot the bill myself?

I would replace it myself but it's not a cheap lid and I was made redundant a few weeks back so I need to cut back on everything where I can.

Cheers all!

Buy a new helmet, I'd say the loss of NCB and elevated premiums due to a claim would exceed the cost to replace (unless you have something ridiculously high spec/price)

Also, if that's the biggest fuck up of your life you must lead a sheltered existence or be the luckiest mofo around

Dunno, have a look at the t&c for your policy.

I doubt it's cover because legal cover & bike and helmet cover are worthless.

Using a lid that's been dropped isn't the end of the world.

Okay maybe it's not the biggest fuck up, but it's the biggest fuck up so far bikewise lol.

And it's not so much I daren't use it it's that I've had it drilled into me that if you drop your lid...REPLACE IT. If others are saying it's not the end of the world then I suppose that's good enough for me. I've not been riding a bike for long so it's more what I've been told that I'm going by. Seeing as everyone has more experience than me then it can't be all that bad.

Thanks everyone 😁

If you can see a flat spot or crack, it's fucked, bin it. If not, chuck it on and stop being a giant vagina.

Do you want us to find a copy of your policy T&Cs and read them for you?

Sight unseen, I'll take a wild stab that there will be something like a £100 excess and they'll want to see some proof of purchase for the lid.

I'm riding around in a helmet that's been dropped, scraped and done breakdancing with... You'll be fine.

Doesn't affect NCD and isn't a claim under 'motor'.

Whaaaat, it costs "just" £48 for helmet-and-leathers? That's about 2/3rds of what I pay in total. Laughing

UK General Insurance Limited will cover damage to Helmet and Leathers as a result of a bike accident only

This policy does not cover loss or damage to the Helmet and Leathers caused by, contributed to, or arising from the following:

f) accidental damage (other than as a result of a road traffic accident)

Each loss is subject to a £50 excess.

You must give UK General Insurance Limited at your own expense any proof of purchase, receipts, copy of your licence or information UK General Insurance Limited need.

If at the time of any loss or damage covered under this insurance you have any other insurance that covers the same loss or damage, UK General Insurance Limited will only pay UK General Insurance Limited’s share of the claim

On that last one, do you have home contents cover with accidental damage?

If not, you might as well get you money's worth and throw the bike down the road as well then claim for the whole lot. Whistle

Excludes 'motor vehicle accessories' generally - I'm sure we had someone here that had their gear pinched from home, insurer has cited exclusion and I'd told him to argue his kit was accessories to him not to the bike. Don't think he ever came back to let us know how he got on, though.
