What's the deal now as they've got access to the motor vehicle data base for tracking the owners?

Got flashed (once that I know about ) on a motorway, expect a fine in the post?

Any idea on cost?

A mate was flashed a few year ago and a fine notice came through the post but it was in French, so another mate translated it and my mate converted the euro fine into pounds and sent a cheque written in pounds sterling to the French address. to this date the cheque has not been cashed

In Holland, if you're doing stupid speeds, they'll take your car off instead. If it's not silly speeds it's fines, they like the money too much to give out points.

Belgium it's fines too, on the spot or they'll escort you to the nearest cashpoint.

last time I was riding in France a policeman driving towards me waved for me to slow down and flashed his lights, which I did, as I got over the hill there was a police speed trap

Despite those supposed changes, I still don't know of anybody that has actually received a fine in the post from a static camera.

We rode through quite a few (French) cameras and got flashed on our Eurojolly at the start of July. No fines have been sent.

The only ones I know of recently were where people were caught by a static camera whilst in a hire vehicle and the hire company pass the details on. Some Muppet in Spain with an apparent 500 Euro fine, and a mate of mine got a fine in the post from France which was 45 Euros. The fine arrived in under two weeks and you download an app to pay it.

I got pulled in France a few weeks ago in the car for 125 kmh in a 90 and just paid the fine at the roadside - that one was 90 Euros.

Fines are based on how far over the limit you are going but don't relate to that link Val posted.

EDIT - This looks more in line with the fines I know of lately:
"In France the faster you are going the higher the fine. In built up areas, fines are set at €90 from just one kph over the limit up to 39kph over.

On other roads, including auto-routes, they are as follows.

When speeding 1kph over to 19kph over the fine €45 and 20kph to 39kph it’s a €90 penalty.

When 40kph to 49kph its €135 and in excess of 50kph over limit €750 and your car can be confiscated to the police compound!"

Used to be fun on the French autoroutes, now they seem to hide their cameras in the grass verges, whatever, I've never spotted one. Been flashed a few times too, so I've been keeping my eyes out. No warning signs, so be warned.

France has turned nasty these last few years, as well as being eye wateringly expensive, I avoid, Germany far better value, and the 'ring....

Maybe I was travelling too fast for the cameras.
