 |
|
Hi
in the manual it recommends Yamalube 4 w10-30 but ive been told to use mobil 1 15-40w??
can anyone offer any advice as to which oil i should use for my 01 r6? ive also been told a thinner oil causes clutch slippage? so I would probably like to avoid that, help appreciated ____________________ Hear Thy Call..............................

Castrol GTX 10W40. Not Magnatech.
The stuff works in pretty much any 4t machine. No need for all this expensive crap. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

I'm pretty certain that GTX Magnatech is semi-synth, and there are a lot of people who swear by it. Using an expensive oil and having no problems isn't the correct way to discount the use of anything less expensive imo. Spending silly money on oils is like spending silly money buying brand new bikes imo. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

The r6 revs to 15,200 rpm, so deserves something half decent .
I use Castrol r4 in mine; good quality fully synth. Will be changing it after every weekend. Looking at about £30 for 4lt; r6 uses a bit less than that.
If you're going to be (ab)using it, a decent fully synth is probably worth it on the r6.
For more general riding I'd go with a semi-synth; I tend to use Castrol GPS (no particular reason for brand loyalty, but have generally heard good stuff about these two Castrol oils.) |

Oops, I did mean specifically not the Magnatech stuff.
Oh well. Plain Castrol GTX is all I'll be using. I'm not going to get a supersports at all if I can possibly avoid it. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Yup R4 sounds good for that bike.
I use Castrol GPS (lower spec) on my old 400. Works great, don't know if it's the bike, oil or a combination of both but it doesn't burn a drop, ever!
R4 or same spec equivalent. |
